Despite being almost constantly emasculated by Melora, Bashir is smitten with her and it´s not long before they are doing the horizontal mombo - or actualy, the vertical mombo - since they end up floating around on the ceiling of her quarters.
The character of Melora, played by Daphne Ashbrook, is fairly interesting and the episode does deal with the idea of what it means to be handicapped in the 24th century, but all that gets lost when she has to deal with Julian Bashir hitting on her and the nonsnese with Fallit Kot.
Melora is assigned to Deep Space Nine, but she comes from a world where the gravity is lighter than ours, and therefore can´t walk without support or has to use a wheelchair.

"Melora" is the title of a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode, from the second season.
The episode's story mainly consists of a relationship between Julian Bashir and Melora Pazlar, an Elaysian whose species' anatomy or physiology is comparatively intolerant of the strength of artificial gravity found on Deep Space Nine.
Later in the episode, Bashir develops an application of a neuromuscular adaptation theory that could allow Melora to comfortably walk without the help of any of the equipment she currently uses.

One thing is for certain every time you pick up a Star Trek novel written by John Vornholt, he generally comes up with extremely well detailed descriptions for aliens and their worlds as he has done once again here with Gemworld.
There are two theories about Gemworld, one is that it is artificial and the more believable of the two is that it is an ancient world that has gone through many phases and for a millennia its inhabitants have done everything they can to keep it intact.
