Melton Mowbray is best known for being the home of the Melton Mowbray pork pies, which are filled with sage-flecked, tiny chunks of pork, glistening in rich pork jelly, and encased in a freestanding, crisp, golden pastry crust.
The Melton Mowbray Town Estate was founded at the time of the reformation, in 1549, when two townsfolk sold gold seqeuestered from the church and bought land to be held in trust for all inhabitants.

It is probable that this Jesse Melton is Jesse E. Melton, son of Jesse Melton, son of William Melton and Lettice White.
On September 26, 1837 200 acres were surveyed for Phillip Melton and William Daniel with copies of the survey being sent to Wilson B. and Thurm/Thomas B. Melton (who had had 250 acres surveyed on September 1, 1837) on Factor's Fork of Shoal Creek.
This survey was done in the name of John Melton (which meant that under the Occupation Act of 1836 that a settler needed to survey land, enter the survey, apply for a grant and ultimately receive a deed.
