 | | The first of these was the garrison of Fort Dundas on Melville Island, followed by Fort Wellington on the east side of Raffles Bay (Cobourg Peninsula), Victoria Settlement at Port Essington and subsequently Palmerston, the name of the settlement established at Escape Cliff. |
 | | In1840—41 he was a pioneer naturalist in the Northern Territory and during this time he gathered plant specimens from Port Essington. |
