Melvin Parker (born June 7, 1944, Kingston, North Carolina) is a drummer, brother of saxophonist Maceo Parker and was formerly an important member of James Brown's band.
Parker's drumming style was a major ingredient in James Brown's funk music innovations in the late 1960s.
Parker's first association with Brown ended when he was drafted in the mid-1960s.

Maceo Parker (born February 14, 1943) is a gifted saxophone player, best known for his contributions to James Brown's distinct sound.
He and his brother, Melvin Parker[?], joined James Brown in 1964; Brown, in his book, says that he originally wanted Melvin as his drummer but agreed to take Maceo under his wing as part of the deal.
Maceo, Melvin and a few of Brown's band members left to found Maceo & All the Kings Men which toured for two years.

On an evening in 1962 (while Maceo was out of town with another band), Melvin was performing with a local band, when James Brown wandered in for some late night food.

To begin with, let's just say this: Maceo Parker's career represents the full spectrum of the history of funk music, and he is a musician, and a person that others should admire, imitate, and look up to.
Unlike Brown, Parker treated his fellow musicians as equals and was thus able to attract the top funk talent to not only join him, but to stay on.
Often, in places where the audience is younger, or in places where funk is just a sample, I imagine that Cory Parker's rapping is an extremely important part of the show, allowing the band to connect with a younger audience (in much the same way George Clinton's rapping sections sprinkle throughout P-Funk shows).
