The Scottish Parliament is composed of 129 members (referred to as MSPs, short for "Members of the Scottish Parliament"; or in Gaelic as BPnA, short for "Buill Pàrlamaid na h-Alba").
The Scottish Parliamentary Election, 2003 produced a slightly different make up for the Parliament than had been in place for the previous four years, with the number of Labour and SNP MSPs being reduced and the number of those representing minor parties outwith the established four main parties increasing.
Following his election to the UK Parliament in the general election of 2005, David Mundell (Conservative) resigned his seat at Holyrood and was replaced by Derek Brownlee.

THE TURNOUT OF just over 34% in the local elections, 38% in the Wales assembly elections and 49% in the Scottish parliament elections means that 25 million voters stayed away — only 13 million voted out of an eligible 38 million.

William Blackwood (November 20, 1776 - September 16, 1834), Scottish publisher, founder of the firm of William Blackwood & Sons, was born of humble parents at Edinburgh.
At the age of fourteen he was apprenticed to a firm of booksellers in Edinburgh, and he followed his calling also in Glasgow and London for several years.
On April 1 1817 was issued the first number of the Edinburgh Monthly Magazine, which on its seventh number, bore the name of Blackwood's as the, leading part of the title.

The Scottish Executive's Proof of Concept Fund – a £33 million pot which fills the gap between an academic breakthrough and a commercially viable process or product – enables researchers to develop prototypes of their work which they can then demonstrate to venture capitalists and industry.
