		Memphis explored a visual language outside of the limiting canons of "good taste," blurring the boundaries between "high" or popular culture and mass-produced "ordinary" consumer goods.
		The group was founded by Ettore Sottsass on 11 December 1980, and resolved to meet again with their designs in February 1981.
		Memphis represented a point of no return for Italian design, a declaration of war on the past — and, equally, of surrender to the future — by a generation of designers that is today having difficulty rediscovering the anti-classical sparkle.

		One of the definitive jug bands of the '20s and early '30s, this seminal group was comprised of Will Shade, Will Weldon, Hattie Hart, Charlie Polk, Walter Horton, and others, in various configurations.
		The Memphis Jug Band played a freewheeling mixture of blues, ragtime, vaudeville, folk, and jazz, which was all delivered with good-time humor.
		Although the group's popularity dipped sharply in the mid-'30s, Will Shade continued to lead the group in various incarnations until his death in 1966.

		Subsequently the tour details changed and we were due to catch the sleeper train the day after we arrived in Cairo, so Sherif suggested that he should meet me at the hotel on arrival (just after midnight).
		For this trip I handled most of the arrangements myself and was only going to book the cruise through Memphis Tours, it turned out to be simpler to also book the sleeper train through them as there was no real saving in booking direct.
