Avron Fogelman's involvement in professional sports in Memphis began in 1970, when, at the age of 30, he served as President of the Memphis Pros of the American Basketball Association (ABA), the first professional basketball team in the state.
Memphis has had a long and rich professional baseball history, but that history was interrupted after the 1976 season of the Memphis Blues.
On opening night in 1978, the Memphis Chicks were welcomed by an overflow crowd and became one of the most successful teams in minor league baseball in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Memphis Rogues were a professional soccer team in the former North American Soccer League.
It was decided to name the team the "Rogues" in part as an allusion to Rowdies, and so that the team would have an elephant mascot (a "Rogue" elephant).
Allison had achieved much controversy during his time in England, and when he had failed to sign a sufficient number of players for the inaugural season, he was dismissed without having coached a match and replaced by ex-Chelsea star Eddie McCreadie.

I grew up in Memphis, and I joined the list because it was the only way to keep up with the Pharaohs (down here the only two football teams the local media think exist are Alabama and Auburn).
It reminds me of when the Memphis Rogues (NASL) moved to Calgary and became the Calgary Boomers), I guess I'll now be following the new team in Nashville.
Actually, Nashville is only half the distance that Memphis is from here so I'll have a better shot at seeing a game in person now.

After moving to the US, Don played for several American Leagues, several times being named Most Valuable Player and being named to several All-Star Teams.
Don's professional coaching career began as a player/coach for the Canton Invaders and continued as Head Coach of the Memphis Rogues.
Don was also Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Extreme of the W-League (Women's League).
