New Brunswick was one of the four original provinces of Canada formed with Confederation in 1867.
Following Confederation, New Brunswick suffered the effects of an economic downturn precipitated by the Great Fire of 1877 in Saint John and the decline of the wooden sailing shipbuilding industry, and compounded by the global recession sparked by the Panic of 1893.

New Brunswick received a city charter from the royal governor in 1730, and was chartered as a city by the state legislature in 1784.
During the War of Independence, General Washington and his army entered New Brunswick on the 28th of November 1776, but on the approach of the enemy evacuated it, and from the 3rd of December 1776 to the i3th of April 1777 it was occupied by the British under Lord Howe.
It is served by the Erie, the West Shore, andby ferries across the Hudsonthe Central New England and the New York Central and Hudson River railways.

Memramcook is a village in southeastern New Brunswick, 10 minutes from Moncton, located in the Memramcook River valley from which it takes its name.
The community is predominantly Acadian who speak the Chiac derivative of the French language and are informally called "Cookers".
Memramcook is often called the "Berceau de l'Acadie", which means that it is the cradle of Acadia.
