Modamag.com | Men In Black 2 (Movie Review)
Now 5 years, and a million salary discussions later, comes “Men In Black 2.” While I found the original to be appealing, and occasionally amusing, it was far from a home run for me. It lacked true laughs, and the speedy plot never really caught fire.
One of the key ingredients to “Men In Black” was the unearthing of the alien community.
You’d think for the paychecks they’re receiving, the duo could come up with something a little fresher than the same old shtick from “Men In Black.” Sonnenfeld and the writers miss a golden opportunity by not having fun with the short time Jay’s and Kay’s roles are reversed in the opening of the film.

Men in Black - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In UFO conspiracy theories, the term Men in Black (MIBs), also known as Men in Gray or Men in Grey, are alleged to be men dressed in fl suits claiming to be government agents who attempt to harass or threaten UFO witnesses into silence.
The men suggest—or the witnesses assume—that they are government agents, and often flash convincing-looking badges and demand that the witness recant their story or hand over photographs or physical evidence of a UFO.
Such reports have led to speculation that Men In Black accounts are not part of any objective reality, but are rather best explained by altered states of consciousness, such as fantasy-prone personalities, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic states and the like.

Men in Black is a 1997 science fiction comedy action film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith and Vincent D'Onofrio.
The film was based on the Men in Black comic books of Lowell Cunningham and featuring the creature animation of Rick Baker.
The movie sequel Men in Black II or (M.II.B.) was released in summer 2002, which had the memory of Jones' character restored so he could battle new threats alongside his former partner.

Men in Black (1997) - Movie Reviews Blog
Men in Black, based on the Malibu comic book series, takes a concept you’d think would be rather simple, an organization that polices alien activity, and really works an intriguing story out of it.
Men in Black is also a fun spin on the tired “buddy cop” genre.
Men in Black eventually spawned a totally kickass animated series (which *needs* a DVD release) as well as a mediocre sequel that you should probably avoid.

Just who are the infamous "Men in Black?" For certain paranoid individuals the "Men in Black" are members of a government agency that appear to cover up incidents involving aliens or possibly the paranormal.
For those who have never seen the movie the opening is confusing at first, because Agent K finds a particular individual in the group of illegal aliens and pulls him aside, and then allows the remaining aliens to go free.
While my description of this movie makes it sound as though it is a cheesy B science fiction movie, this movie is actually a nicely plotted comedy that manages to make fun of the "Men in Black" conspiracy theory and science fiction movies and their aliens.

In 1997, the original `Men in Black' struck a nerve with movie audiences by showing that even a big budget blockbuster, heavily loaded down with state-of-the-art, computer-generated special effects, could still manage to seem light on its feet.
Well, five years have passed and we now have `Men in Black II' to confirm what most of us suspected all along: that works that rely on `uniqueness' as their prime selling point are rarely ever able to duplicate their success a second time around.
In fact, if `Men in Black II' shows us anything, it is that just because something MOVES doesn't mean that it can't bore us at the same time.

Much like the first Men in Black movie that came out in 1997, Men in Black II is packed full of jaw-dropping special effects and will have you laughing out loud at the theater.
The movie starts out with Will Smith (MIB Agent Jay) and his new partner, tracking the whereabouts of a gigantic alien worm named Jeff, who's living in the subway tunnels of New York.
Men in Black II has its funny moments, like when Michael Jackson makes a cameo appearance as a potential alien (cuz he looks so darn creepy!) and that talking dog Frank will have you chuckling to yourself too.

They are unfortunately all correct: Men in Black II, while not as incredibly bad as some people that I have spoken to have claimed, is a huge disappointment.
A silly question since the movie's attitude is best summed up by Tommy Lee Jones' hangdog expression (is it just me or is he beginning to resemble Walter Matthau?): tired and drained of energy.
No doubt a third Men in Black movie is probably in the works considering the big bucks this instalment made, but one can only wonder about the amount of goodwill towards this franchise that will remain after this lacklustre instalment.
