Menagerie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Menagerie is a historical form of keeping wild animals in human captivity and therefore a predecessor of the modern zoological garden.
The term menagerie was foremost used in seventeenth century France for a courtly or royal animal collection.
One of the most prominent courtly menageries was founded by king Louis XIV of France in his royal park of Versailles in 1662.

With "The Menagerie" however, we do have characters explaining to us the events which took place in "The Cage" which is something that I don't feel was entirely necessary and it's this element which at times makes this seem to be little more than a watered down version of the original Pilot.

Tennessee Williams' luminous memory play remains a powerful emotional experience even when given a less-than-perfect rendition, as is the case of this Broadway revival starring Jessica Lange.
Although it only fitfully captures the play's delicate poignancy, this "The Glass Menagerie" is a respectable production showcasing its leading lady's latest ambitious foray into the pantheon of classic American dramatic roles.
More strangely, he sets much of the action behind a curtain, with the result that often this "Glass Menagerie" comes across more like a shadow puppet play than a living, breathing rendition of Williams' timeless classic.
