Magnetic Island News - Magnetic Island, North Queensland, Australia
Following is a article Eric wrote about Magnetic's dwarf skink, Menetia sadlieri and his rediscovery of it.
However, reptiles are critical to the Australian ecology, and gaining a better understanding of their ecology is critical to many species’ continued survival.
Judging by the crap spread from XBase down the Nelly Bay beach and road towards the ferry terminal on New Years day I'd say it's unlikely that this little skink "may be the only animal truly unique to Magnetic".

Evolutionary origins, clonal structure, and comparative biology of unisexual (all female, clonally-reproducing) forms in the native skink Menetia.
Elucidation of the evolutionary origins and clonal structure of unisexual Menetia is therefore important in its own right, as well as an essential pre-requisite for testing both established and contentious hypotheses about the evolutionary and ecological attributes of unisexual lineages.
The information obtained from this study is also critical to any future detailed investigation of the ecological interactions between sexual and unisexual Menetia, and between different clones of the same unisexual lineage.

According to Cogger (1992), Menetia greyii is the only member of the genus that occurs in this part of Australia and this lizard may have been one of these.
Currently Menetia greyii is listed as being found across a wide tract of Australia, perhaps increasing the chances of more than one species being involved.
