251 Menlove Avenue, named Mendips, is a National Trust property, the childhood home of John Lennon, singer and songwriter with The Beatles.
Despite having purchased the childhood residence of Paul McCartney, the National Trust showed no interest in acquiring the Menlove Avenue property.
It was eventually bought by Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, who then donated it to the National Trust.

The Menlove versions of these songs are edited.

The bungalow was very white and sunny with a magnificent setting, right beside the sea, with a own little harbor and stepts at the bottom of her garden leading down to the sea.
It all looked very new, but most of it was brought from her old home of Menlove Avenue.
They did move to 92 Broadway Avenue until 1947 when they moved again to 72 Western Avenue for nearly six years before moving to Ardwick Road when Paul was 11 years old.

"Menlove Ave." is a collection of alternate versions and outtakes from the recording sessions which yielded the albums "Walls & Bridges" and "Rock 'n' Roll." It is named after the street name of John Lennon's childhood home.
Fast forward to 2000, when, to complete this review, I dusted off my neglected Menlove Avenue LP for another listen (by now knowing that side B was in fact a series of out-takes).
"Menlove Avenue" is not the best of the unreleased of John Lennon, but a fine taste of what the vaults held back for years.

Liverpool and English Heritage paid tribute to John Lennon by erecting a Blue Plaque on the outside of the house in Menlove Avenue where John spent his informative youth living with his beloved Aunt Mimi and Uncle George.
The Blue Plaque scheme honours famous and influential people and the plaque at Menlove Avenue is the first of its kind outside of London.
Many hundreds of people had gathered at Menlove Avenue in the cold and rain to take part in the ceremony and many of John's family were present also.

They are probably still in the process of fixing it up...remember, it is scheduled to open to the public in March, so there is probably still a ton of construction going on...
I remember when I visited it 3 years back it was in good condition...very nice indeed.
When hubby and I were there in 1997 they had just added a blue plaque to the outside, marking it as a historic place!

Barry I think James Murphy gives credit to someone who has researched Julia as part of their family history and as far as we know we have no reason to doubt that she was born in 1861.

St. Peter's was John's Parish Church, within walking distance of his home on Menlove Avenue.
Located on Beaconsfield Road about a block from its intersection with Menlove Avenue, Strawberry Field was a short walk from John's home and offered a magical, thickly-wooded world of escape that obviously remained a special place in his heart.
