		Menongue was a “big” city in those days, especially when compared with the other places in the province.
		With a population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants, quite a few shops, the residence of the Governor and a couple of hotels, Menongue was the largest population centre in the district and the capital of the Cuando Cubango.
		In Menongue we would have to wait for a supply truck or if we were really lucky a government officer travelling the province in business.

		Kuando Kubango Province: All three gathering areas in the province are empty after the last people in Matungo GA were moved on 23 May. Five hundred people remained in the Menongue transit centre, down from a population of 5,000 at the end of April.
		Flooding in Rivungo Municipality and other areas east of Mavinga destroyed crops and displaced approximately 2,600 people who arrived in Mavinga town seeking food assistance during May. Reception centres need to be constructed in Katuiti and Caiundo to facilitate the repatriation of Angolan refugees from Namibia beginning in June.
