 The Meramec River Valley
The Meramec valley was originally a mix of oak-hickory forest, upland and river-valley woodland, savanna, with occasional breaks leading to tallgrass prairie and tallgrass glades.
Perhaps one of the strangest encounters in the valley was the battle of Leasburg in late 1864.
The Meramec is considered a recreational river all the way to its mouth, as evidenced by places such as George Winter Park--a former sand and gravel mining operation turned speedboat paradise, and numerous Missouri Dept. of Conservation managed fishing accesses like those at The Palisades near Pacific.

Total improved acres were on the rise because as noted in Goodspeed, "Malaria is rapidly disappearing before the advance of civilization and improved methods of cultivating and draining the soil." Residents in Franklin County relied heavily on wheat as a money-making crop because the soil was well adapted to its growth.
Meramec Park Lake was advocated as a flood control reservoir as well as a recreational reservoir.
Of all stands within the basin, the stand size-classes (stocked forest land based on the size of the tree on the area) on tracts of land are roughly 45% saw timber, 30% pole timber, and 18-25% seedling and sapling timber (Leatherberry 1990; Hansen 1991).

 Meramec River Story
For many millions of years the Meramec has been carving its twisting, sometimes tortuous 240 mile course into the solid rock of the Ozark Plateau, scouring its way through a deep, slowly widening valley, bordered by limestone bluffs and steep hills.
It is interesting to note that the Dry Fork, which is about the same size as the Meramec in that area, loses most of its volume underground to become a major contributor to Maramec Spring, and in a round-about way - a major contributor to the Upper Meramec.
As the darker waters flow on, the valley widens, and the river becomes a series of long, slow, wide pools, connected by short, fast, riffles.

 Meramec River - Trivia
The name “Meramec” is of Algonquin Indian origin, and means “ugly fish” or “catfish”, which were abundant in its waters, but however, it is possible that the river is named after a band of Miami-Illinois (Inoka) Indians who lived along the Meramec.
Because of the fluctuating water levels of the Huzzah he built and raised his family in a treehouse, and was one of the first in the area to rent canoes to floaters.
It worked fine at normal river stages, but the Meramec fluctuates wildly and at high water the culverts could not handle the flow so the river washed out the ground on either side of the bridge, making it useless.

In Thompson, the court was presented with an issue similar to the one currently before us, namely whether the transfer of property by a corporation, which was the alter ego of the debtor, constituted a transfer of property by the debtor.
Rockhill, who was the president and sole shareholder of Eastern Valley, filed for personal bankruptcy but did not disclose any properties held by Eastern Valley during his bankruptcy proceedings.
There, the court first discussed the implication of an unappealed default judgment declaring that Eastern Valley was the alter ego and a mere instrumentality of Rockhill at the time of the transfer.
