Mercer is an incorporated town, on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, ten miles northeast of Princeton.
The commissioners appointed to locate the seat of justice for the county of Mercer, fixed upon a site three miles east of the present town, but as many objections were waged against the place, mainly the lack of water, the county court through commissioners appointed by itself, established the present seat of justice.

This is not entirely accurate, as the county was not formed until he was 14 years old, but his parents home was taken into that new county, and he did indeed live in Whitley County, first on Patterson Creek and later on Meadow Creek, for the next ten years, until he married.
This area in the northern part of the county was taken from Livingston County to form the new County of Grundy in 1841.
William Morgan's daughter Hannah Jane, born in 1834, relates in "Roger's History of Mercer County", published in 1911, that her husband's uncle, Johnny Reeves, and her father were the first settlers of what was referred to as the Goshen Prairie.

Mercer County was organized February 14,1845, from Grundy County and named for John F. Mercer, a Revolutionary War general.
A county in the northern part of the State, bounded on the north by the State of Iowa, east by Putnam and Sullivan Counties, south by Grundy County, and west by Harrison County.
In 1841, when Grundy County was organized, what is now Mercer was included within its limits, and remained so until February 14, 1845, when the county was organized and named in honor of General Hugh Mercer, of Revolutionary fame.

Mercer County bought 40 acres from the U.S. government for the county seat and sold lots, using the money for public buildings.
After half a dozen rejected bond issues, courthouse advocates mustered their strengths and succeeded in passing by a four to one ratio a bond issue for $75,000 in October 1911.
After the fire in 1898, the county had sold the square to the city for a park, so a new site was necessary.

George and Winnie were living in Anderson County, Tennessee in 1814 when my ggg grandfather Joseph Elvin Moore was born.
They apparently arrived in Tennessee before they were married, because they are believed to have been married in Anderson County about 1813.
Given the birth places of the children, the family evidently arrived in Missouri shortly before the 1850 census.
