Listening to a Mercury Rev album, you get the distinct feeling that all they do is stargaze and intertwine their lyrics with feelings and nature, and that's about all they do.
Mercury Rev's music is meant for nice people, and if you don't like nice, then there won't be much on Secret Migration that you'll enjoy, sans some nice riffs and the two quasi-popular songs "Vermillion" and "In a Funny Way" (which have undoubtedly been heard on some television show somewhere).
It would be easy at this point of Mercury Rev's career to try the 'anything goes' approach of the Flaming Lips, but their music is still fresh.

The spacier elements of Mercury Rev's wide-screen epics are immediately apparent and, at times, they come close to overwhelming the band's finely crafted songs.
