Mercury Rising never forget that true heaviness comes from allowing the music to breathe, balancing light and dark, quiet and heavy, warm human elements versus harsh cold reality, and simply rocking out when appropriate.
Granted, the men of Mercury Rising have chops and they aren't afraid to display them; the song structures of "Building Rome" allows the band to find opportune times to dictate the use of technical wizardry to shine in the spotlight as the inherent progressive elements flow.
Mercury Rising is Mike Evans and Judd Rizzo on guitars, Chris Bush on bass, Clarence Osborne on vocals, and Jeff Moos on drums.

Science and the Environment Bulletin: Mercury Rising
These mercurial storms were discovered in early 1995 by Environment Canada researchers who had begun measuring concentrations of gaseous mercury at an air chemistry observatory near Alert, at the northern tip of Ellesmere Island.
This aerosol mercury falls to the earth's surface much faster than gaseous mercury, and accumulates in the ice, snow and spring meltwater in an oxidized form that is much more easily taken up into the food chain.
Mercury's newly revealed behaviour, at least in the polar regions, is scientifically significant.

He's also not happy that Wendroff bases his conclusions about the extent of ritual mercury use on the early work of his Montefiore colleagues Zayas and Ozuah--the latter of whom is now participating in the NIH project--even though the researchers made clear that their work was only preliminary.
The overall atmospheric mercury rate, says Susan Boehme, a project manager for the New York Academy of Sciences, is almost impossible to gauge because much of the airborne mercury in the region actually originates in coal-burning power plants in the midwest, and then gets carried east on the prevailing winds.

Mercury emissions from power plants have never been regulated by the federal government.
According to the EPA, "the Utility Mercury Reductions proposal would cut mercury emissions by nearly 70 percent when fully implemented." The EPA originally announced that full implementation would be achieved by the year 2018 but after some criticism has backed away from offering a specific end date.
The letter urges the EPA to elevate consideration of mercury's impacts on children in finalizing this rule.

The reason for the rise in mercury contamination, many suspect, is the nation's heavy reliance on coal.
When mercury is expelled from smokestacks, and falls to earth as particles or in rain, it sinks into lake and river sediment.
Last fall a federal advisory committee on power-plant mercury was on the verge of recommending cuts of up to 90 percent in utility mercury emissions and a cap of five tons for the industry by 2008.

Their boss, an evil government stooge (Alec Baldwin), is outraged that his employees would pull such a stunt and Baldwin takes steps to eliminate all traces of the boy's involvement with the code and the government office that created it.

MERCURY RISING is another of those tales that the Hollywood establishment loves.
MERCURY RISING's script by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal, based on Ryne Douglas Pearson's novel, doesn't even have sense enough to put in a few twists.
The story is so obvious from the beginning that director Harold Becker doesn't even try to have the actors hide anything as they march to its completely predictable and totally unbelievable conclusion.

``Mercury Rising'' is a Bruce Willis action movie, which means that most of us know what it will be like going in, and the only question is whether it's a good one or a lousy one.
The world will have forgotten ``Mercury Rising'' after the next month or so, but this is the quintessential 1998 movie.
Anyway, that's what ``Mercury Rising'' is really about -- the tension between America's idea of its past and its fear of the future.

Mercury Rising, although just released to cinema and DVD on both sides of the atlantic this year, was actually filmed before Bruce Willis epic "Armageddon".
As Bruce explains in the featurette on the disc, it is somewhat a departure from his action epics like "Die Hard", and perhaps the studio wanted to wait until the "Armageddon" excitement had died down before releasing the movie.
Unfortunately, "Mercury Rising" did not do so well at the box office, but it should find an audience on DVD.

"Mercury Rising" is a formula Bruce Willis movie, save for the fact that it has fewer corpses and explosions than a "Die Hard" script.
Head of the NSA Lt. Colonel Nicholas Kudrow (Alec Baldwin), reluctant to admit that his Mercury code is fallible, orders Simon and his parents killed.
The action is slow at times and the script doesn't bear much analysis--Jeffries' best friend at work is never tailed by the shadowy NSA; Simon graduates from tracing a simple maze to reading top-security code at the turn of a page; and the professional hit man thinks nothing of waving a gun around in public.

Essentially, *Mercury Rising is about Art's attempt to help Simon escape from these mercenary killers -- Burrell (*Ginter,) Kudrow (*Baldwin,) and Shayes (*Stormare).
Three NSA underlings -- Crandell (*Stanton,) Lang (*Preston,) and Pedranski (*Elfman) -- are also caught in between the killers and the boy, however they are unwilling to cover for their scheming boss and attempt to protect Simon.
As far as *Mercury Rising goes, it's one of the more 'little known gems' in the Willis discography -- and I think Bruce gives as memorable a performance here as the trio he's turned out in Tears of the Sun, The Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable.

Bruce Willis stars as FBI Agent Art Jeffries, who lands a seemingly routine (albeit sad) assignment: tracking down an autistic nine-year-old boy, Simon Lynch (Miko Hughes), who is missing from the scene of what looks like the murder/suicide of his parents.
Since Art is a tough hero with a heart of gold, we don’t doubt for a second what he’ll do, but given the parameters of the story, ‘Mercury Rising’ is refreshingly unsentimental.
‘Mercury Rising’ isn’t brilliant, but it’s good, tight entertainment.

TechnoFILE Reviews "Ronin" and "Mercury Rising" on DVD
Imagine Films' Mercury Rising, at first glance, looks like your typical action spy thriller, with nothing out of the ordinary to recommend it.
"Rising" is really about a nine year old autistic named Simon, who just happens to be able to read the US government's ultimate "super code." This makes him a security risk that must be eliminated, and the government will stop at nothing to see that it happens.
Mercury Rising has the action and intrigue you'd expect, but it isn't just a shoot-em-up.
