Mere is an attractive small town that has grown up in the south western corner of Wiltshire, on the fringe of the great forest of Selwood.
In 1253 the manor of Mere belonged to the Earl of Cornwall, Richard the younger brother of Henry III.
Mere had another traumatic experience in 1881 when the great storm of that year caused the town, like many other communities, to be cut off from the outside world for several days.

This is a simple traditional cache located between Mere and Charnage Downs an excellent area for walks via traditional footpaths and newly appointed Open Access land.
If you are walking from the village of Mere follow the footpath up until you reach the same stile.
Anyway Rosie enjoyed the walk when we got there and although we could see heavy rain all around, with the great views from up there, not one drop fell on us, so it was dry all the way.
