  Merle S. Bruno, Hampshire College
Today, Dean Walker is in excellent health, appealing for reinstatement of his pilot¹s license (which he lost because of an FAA technicality involving the drug coumadin), and doing quite well with a combination of a maintenance anticoagulant (coumadin), compression stockings (to reduce the risk of edema), and dietary regulation.
Dean Walker visited his physician concerning the joint pain and fever (on April 4, 1995), and his physician did not observe any cause for concern, noting that Dean Walker's joints were not swollen, he had full joint range of motion, no respiratory difficulty, and a normal temperature at 36.1 degrees C (96.98 degrees F).
Later exams revealed that Dean Walker's heart, gastrointestinal (GI) system, and venous valves were all normal and functioning well (that the venous valves were uninjured by the clots is particularly surprising considering that clots often physically tear or stretch valves and their connecting tissues).
