Shallow water assemblages were dominated by species from the families Gempylidae, Squalidae, Triahidae and Moridae, mainly represented by Thyrsites atun, Squalus acanthias, Galeorhinus australis, and Pseudophycis bachu respectively.
Deep water assemblages were dominated by Chimaeridae, Argentinidae, Merlucciidae and Macrouridae, mainly represented by Hydrolagus novaezelandiae, Argentina elongata, Macruronus novaezelandiae, and Lepidorrhynchus denticulatus respectively.
Merlucciidae, Macrouridae and Gempylidae often dominated the total catch weight.

Shallow-water assemblages were dominated by species from the families Gempylidae, Squalidae, Triakidae and Moridae, mainly represented by Thyrsites atun, Squalus acanthias, Galeorhinus australis, and Pseudophycis bachus.
Deep water assemblages were dominated by Chimaeridae, Argentinidae, Merlucciidae and Macrouridae, mainly represented by Hydrolagus novaezelandiae, Argentina elongata, Macruronus novaezelandiae, and Lepidorhynchus denticulatus.
Fish assemblages were related to discrete ranges of depth (_ and _ 300 m) and temperature (_ and _ 9.5°C), but the range of sediment types was too narrow to show any correlation.

Livingston & Schofield--Discriminating hoki stocks using morphometrics
Stock discrimination of hoki (Macruronus novaezelandiae, Merlucciidae) in New Zealand waters using morphometrics
Abstract We compared morphometric features of adult-size (75-95 cm total length) hoki, Macruronus novaezelandiae, from the two main spawning grounds (West Coast South Island, Cook Strait) and from the two main areas of dispersal (Auckland Island-Campbell Plateau, Chatham Rise) to determine if more than one stock is evident.
There is also some support for the hypothesis that Auckland Island-Campbell Plateau hoki are from the same stock as the West Coast spawners, and that Chatham Rise hoki are from the same stock as the Cook Strait spawners.

The two new families are Congridae and Merlucciidae.
Hence, the list of families has been reduced from 49 to 44, as the families Cybiidae, Thunnidae, and Scombridae are integrated into one family, and the Moronidae and Scophthalmidae have been separated from, respectively, the Serranidae and Bothidae families.
The two new families in Appendix 1 are Congridae (Drensky, 1951) and Merlucciidae.
