He is Lord Voldemort's maternal grandfather, patriarch of the House of Gaunt and first appears in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Marvolo and his son Morfin appear to be either extremely dedicated to the pureblood cause, extremely insane due to the Gaunts' history of intermarrying with their own cousins, or most likely a combination of both.
Marvolo Gaunt's daughter Merope Gaunt bore a halfblood grandson with the muggle Tom Riddle Sr named Tom Marvolo Riddle.

No one in the books thinks TMR (Voldemort himself) is buried there, and his mother Merope certainly wouldn't be, either.
Tom Marvolo Riddle (Lord Voldemort) was named Tom after his father (who may have been named after his father) and Marvolo after his mother's (Merope Gaunt) father Marvolo Gaunt.
He murdered his father and paternal grandparents when he was about 16 which means the DOB is wrong on the gravestone as well it should not read 1915 as Tom snr would have been about 11 when he fathered Tom jnr (Voldie).

It's an obvious one since it says "Tom Marvolo Riddle" and that is not Voldemort's father's name, since Marvolo is the name of his grandfather Gaunt.
They would have filmed the shot before the Half-Blood Prince was published and could have made the mistake of assuming Voldemort was a junior and so his father would need to have the same name as him.
The only problem I find with that logic is the dates on the gravestone indicate that if the third name is Voldemort's father, then he knocked Merope up when he was twelve!
