Eligible for membership in the “Order of the Merovingian Dynasty” are men and women who have shown a love of history, who have been significant participants and leaders in genealogy, and who are lineal descendants of the first King of the Merovingian Dynasty- Merovech (Merovee), who was king of the Salic Franks 448-457.
Ladies and gentlemen are eligible for membership if they can prove their descent from the Merovingian King Merovech (Merovee), proposed by a member of the Order to whom they are known personally and approved by the Membership Committee of the Order.
If the application is deemed to have merit but has minor defects which require additional time and research by the Genealogist General, additional charges for research may be made by the Genealogist General in consultation with the applicant.

The name is taken from Merovech, one of the first kings of the Salian Franks, who succeeded to Clodio in the middle of the 5th century, and soon became the centre of many legends.
The chronicler known as Fredegarius Scholasticus relates that a queen wa~ once sitting by the seashore, when a monster came out of the sea, ai~d by this monster she subsequently became the mother of Merovech, but this myth is due to an attempt to explain the heros name, which means the sea-born.
Merovech was the father of Childeric I. (457481), and grandfather of Clovis (481511), under whom the Salian Franks conquered the whole of Gaul, except the kingdom of Burgundy, Provence and Septimania.
