Merrimac is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, in the United States, and on the southeastern border of New Hampshire.
Merrimac was known for its horse-drawn carriage industry during the latter part of the 1800s and during the Industrial Revolution, which, in the United States, found one of its seeds in nearby Lowell, Massachusetts.
Merrimac is a thrifty and attractive manufacturing town situated on the north bank of the Merrimack River, and bounded by Amesbury on the east, West Newbury and Haverhill on the south, and Newton in New Hampshire on the northwest and north.

The Town of Merrimac was first settled by Europeans in the late 1650’s, and the colonists’ main crop was corn.
Merrimac has a public boat ramp on Lake Attitash, and is close to many attractions, including the Georgetown–Rowley State Forest, a 1,112 acre preserve offering a variety of year-round activities including horseback riding, hiking, walking, hunting (some restrictions), cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
Merrimac, with the towns of Groveland and West Newbury, comprise the Pentucket Regional School District.

 History of the Town of Georgetown Massachusetts
The village elders gave him a lease with certain conditions to farm the western end of the "Old Town Field on the Gravell Plain." "He is to have the benefit of the land for 21 years and the rent shall be used for the ministry or town.
Central School served the town for seventy years from 1905 until June, 1974 when the structure housed the Town Hall with town offices and school departments sharing the facility.
Work by the building committee began immediately and by the November special town meeting of the same year a preliminary design was presented to the Town and approved.

On the other side of town, the Major Denison house (number 87 number Lowell Street, corner of Tyler, owned by Keyes), is said to succeed a log house probably of the 1660's, and is equipped with Indian shutters, wooden panels that slide across the windows to keep out Indian arrows.
They had to go to the business meetings of the town in the same meeting house, which was also used for the storage of gunpowder and had wolves-heads nailed to the walls.
Speaking of dividing the town, there was serious discussion in 1774 of making the east and west ends into separate towns, but nothing to this effect was allowed.

The town was part of Society Land and was comprised of former portions of Hancock, Greenfield, Deering, and Francestown, the town was named in commemoration of the Battle of Bennington, fought on August 14-16, 1777, near Bennington, VT. Vermont's Bennington was named for Governor Benning Wentworth.
First settled in 1764, the town was named Hancock in 1779 in honor of John Hancock, first governor of Massachusetts, president of the Continental Congress, and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Owing to confusion with the town of Nottingham in the north, voters petitioned to have the town renamed in 1830.

Creede was officially established as a town in 1892 and by the spring of that same year had exploded into a thriving city of never ending activity with the town and surrounding area playing host to some 10,000 inhabitants.

It may be interesting to note here that the town does not presently have legal title to a portion of the Pleasant Valley school, due to one of the multitudinous errors in recognition of what is what in the old land titles in this town.
The town government had first used the telegraph in 1868 and a general store telephone in 1893, which is believed to have existed for more than ten years before that, but the town did not have a telephone installed in town hall until 1901.
One of the most unusual fires in the history of the town was that of the old Duck Bridge that is said to have floated down the Merrimack River from Lawrence in 1887 and finished burning against Kimball's Island in Pleasant Valley.
