The route continues along a tree-lined riverside path to Earlsfield, where the river is currently inaccessible, so you must divert along busy Garratt Lane past Earlsfield station, crossing Section 5 of the Capital Ring.
Returning to the river, you walk through King George's Park, then Wandsworth town centre, which is rather bland, but it is worth continuing because the final stretch approaching the mouth of the Wandle is impressive.
The route has a hard, level surface except in two places: in Beddington Park you can divert along nearby tarmac paths to avoid a grassy stretch and a stepped bridge over a lake; at Watermeads an uneven path can be avoided by diverting through Poulter Park.

Its history is long, going as far back as Saxon times when "Wendel’s settlement" became known today as Wandsworth… but has been heavily utilised and sculpted along its whole route by successive generations for industry and manufacturing, pleasure gardens and parks.
Today its history is rich with this background, taking in gracious parkland and industrial wasteland, urban street and garden suburb areas, with a variety of contrasts on the way — often providing a restful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of streets and suburban life around.
