		BISBEE -- Mescal residents seeking fire protection for their area received the Cochise County Board of Supervisors' approval Tuesday to begin the petition process to turn their fledgling volunteer fire department into a state-recognized fire district.
		The problem, Cokely said, is that the fire department serves about 1,000 households in the area, far fewer than it receives dues from, and is therefore understaffed and lacking in the resources to adequately fight fires in the area.
