		Mescalero is the latest installment in an unparalleled resume that stretches back to 1969 when the group was founded in Houston out of the key components of The Moving Sidewalks (Gibbons) and The American Blues (Hill and Beard).
		Mescalero includes sixteen tracks (fifteen of which were written for the album plus one cover song) for a total running time of approximately 63 minutes; the band refers to the album's length as "a buck and change." The album was produced by Billy F Gibbons and Lone Wolf Production Company.
		Beyond the Mescalero originals, the album includes "Tramp," the proto-rap R&B classic, written by Lowell Fulsom and Jimmy McCracklin, that was a hit duet for Otis Redding and Carla Thomas in 1967.

		"Mescalero" is a true ZZ Top classic, with the veteran band delivering sixteen(!) tracks of smoldering blues that smoke their way out of your stereo speakers like the delicious aroma of thick juicy steaks from underneath your closed barbeque lid.
		"Mescalero" may very well be their best album in more than a decade.
		The sound is gritty and bluesy although the bearded boys slick this album up with a little more shine than before, so that gives it something extra.

		Originally slated to be released this past spring, the album was postponed in the wake of a realignment of the label and a desire to platform the album's launch with the strongest possible campaign.

		Billy, Dusty, and Frank are back after a 3-year hiatus with "Mescalero", their new CD which feature 16 (yes, sixteen) songs (and a bonus, unlabeled song after track #16) which comprises easily over an hour of music (I believe that this makes "Mescalero" the longest ZZ album ever made).
		The result with most of the tracks on the CD is that his rhythm guitar most of the time seems like mush...it all just runs together and it's hard to actually hear anything but a lot of fuzz.
		As far as the good songs go, there's plenty of them on here...none of them will probably wind up on the "Classic ZZ Top Song List", but they are some pretty good tunes in their own right.
