Topic: Message in a Bottle (Voyager episode)

Prometheus class starship - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thus far, the only known ship of this type is the USS Prometheus (NX-59650), which appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager entitled "Message in a Bottle".
Another of this class was seen in Voyager's finale, "Endgame", but the ships' name has not been determined.
In standard configuration, a ship of this class is composed of an arrowhead-shaped primary hull attached directly to a short, small secondary hull supporting four warp nacelles on short pylons in an 'X' configuration.

 What's your Favorite Voyager Episode? - STARTREKFANS.NET
I know, everyone was in a struggle to survive and it would not have helped anything to be at each other's throats but for the sake of realism, it would have added to the danger of their predicament, therefore it would have served well as a dramatic element but alas...
The best Voyager episode for my money was "Someone to Watch Over Me." Being in the Audio/Video production business, I found that not only was the storyline one of the most compelling but the camera shots and angles were some of the best that I have even seen on that series.
I loved Seska and I liked the one where Voyager's crew are deserted on a planet by her and the Kazon.

Message in a Bottle - Memory Alpha
He discovers that Voyager was officially declared lost 14 months ago, but after The Doctor sets the record straight directly to Starfleet Headquarters, they send the Doctor back to Voyager through the subspace relay network with a message for the captain: Voyager is no longer alone.
Although the Dominion is referenced in several other episodes, this is the only one to reference the Dominion War and the only direct mention of the Dominion on the series.
According to the display in Astrometrics on Voyager, showing the position of the USS Prometheus, the ship was actually in the Beta Quadrant, although the relay station network did reach into the deep space regions of the Alpha Quadrant.

I only watch part of the episode and the one nit that did stick out was the fact that when they transferred the Doc over the relay, how did they transfer his mobile emitter, that not part of the hologram, its a solid object.
Here's a nit that's ben covered in previous episodes, but this time it was really a good shot in the beginning of the episode of the turbolift doors, and as always, there was no gap or crack in the floor separating the bridge deck from the turbolift floor.
However, in the opening of "Message In A Bottle," the quadrant borders appear to be offset by fourty-five degrees, with all of the known races (humans, Klingons, Romulans and so on) solidly in the Alpha Quadrant (a similar map appeared at the start of "The Year of Hell").

Although this episode is tons of fun and jam-packed with amusing dialog, there's too much plot here (or, more specifically, too much of the wrong type of plotting), and not enough reflection.
Yet "Message in a Bottle" is one of the most entertaining episodes all season--an episode that made me care and had me in anticipation over how the end would be handled and how the starship Voyager morale would be benefited.
And that brings me back to the overriding problem with "Message in a Bottle": its serious and emotionally gripping general premise is held back (and held back to a fault) by its utterly inconsequential action/comedy plot.

 Hunters
Receiving a garbled message from Starfleet via the sensor array discovered at the beginning of "Message In A Bottle," Janeway and company discover most of the message is lodged in the nearest sensor relay and set course.
Voyager barely escapes and the entire sensor array is damaged in the process--once again isolating the crew from any possible communication with the Alpha Quadrant (though there is still the undeciphered secret message.) Obviously, the Hirogen are not pleased.
Last episode she finds out that this array (which is 100,000 years old and seems to have been build by an extremely advanced and powerful race) is owned by the hirogen and they are not happy about it, in fact they tell her to get lost.

Back on Voyager, Janeway and Chakotay write letters home to their families while Tom languishes in Sickbay, working with Harry to devise a replacement EMH in case the Doc never makes it back.
Janeway arguably made a decision dumb enough to warrant needing a new leader, in risking her only medical staff on a mission that, even if successful, was never likely to get her a quick trip home, but that didn't really bother me: for once she decided to take a big risk and it actually worked.
Voyager - the series as well as the ship - desperately needed something like "Message in a Bottle" to justify its mission.

In DS9's Season 5 episode, "Doctor Bashir, I Presume?" Dr Julain Bashir was selected to be the model for the new generation of Emergency Medical Hologram.
However, likely due to the scandal that arose in that episode, a different model was selected, as is obvious from this episode, in which the EMH-2 is played by Andy Dick, as opposed to Alexander Siddig.
Although the stardate is never mentioned in this episode, the episode was aired approximately three months before the DS9 episode, "In The Pale Moonlight." It is in that episode that the Romulans ally themselves with the Federation and the Klingons in the war against the Dominion.

Since the Doctor reported to Starfleet Headquarters in "Message In A Bottle", Voyager has made some significant short cuts to its journey {most notably in "Hope And Fear", "Night", "Timeless", and "Dark Frontier"} that Starfleet could not possibly know about.

In the first four years that USS Voyager NCC-74656 was occupied with escaping from Kazon warships, making hyperspatial jumps, and playing cat-and-mouse with the Borg, Starfleet Command was equally busy developing an experimental starship with some very special capabilities.
The USS Prometheus NX-74913 was created for the Star Trek Voyager episode 'Message in a Bottle,' in which the Doctor's holomatrix was transmitted tens of thousands of light years (via an alien com relay) in an attempt to send word about Voyager's plight.
A comparison chart was developed to show the relationship between Prometheus and Voyager, not that the two would ever appear in the same shot, but to help the producers visualize the ship and establish scale for the paint scheme, windows, and other plant-on parts.

Even with the information about the relay stations that we get in "Retrospect," as to their power source, it's still a stretch for me. However, I imagine if one was able to tap into the power in a quantum singularity that would be an awesome amount of power.
Back on Voyager, the tension between B'Elanna and Seven was mentioned but not pandered to, though I could have done without B'Elanna's confrontation of Seven in the astrometrics lab, it seemed somewhat ineffectual and B'Elanna seemed to be ranting more than anything else.

Later on in the Voyager episode Message In A Bottle the Prometheus and a Nebula class starship are seen trading phaser blasts while travelling at warp, possibly showing that phasers have been modified to being able to fire at warp speeds.
My favourite interpretation of this scene is that both ships are firing at VERY close range, it is possible that the vessels subspace fields were overlapping, allowing the phasers to work properly (I.e the phasers were travelling at the same relative velocity in the ships as they are inside the warp bubbles.
I remember one episode (the first time I ever came across this) years ago which I watched where the Enterprise had hit warp 4 and was in combat with one or two vessels.
