Several schemes were proposed by the Messerschmitt design bureau to extend the range of the Me 264, including towing one Me 264 by another to altitude, in flight refueling by a second Me 264, adding two more engines bringing the total to six and using take-off rocket pods for overload takeoff conditions.
A general skepticism was creeping in concerning the numerous delays in getting the first Me 264 in the air, and again the consensus from the RLM and General Staff of the Luftwaffe was leaning towards the Junkers Ju 290 and the six engined Ju 390.
On June 29, 1944, the Trial Establishments Headquarters definitely stated that the Me 264, as well as the Ju 390, would be unsuitable for operational deployment since its fitting with the entire military equipment and payload would excessively increase the takeoff weight and the wing load.

Messerschmitt AG, later Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) was a famous German aircraft manufacturer, known primarily for its World War II fighter aircraft, notably the Bf 109 and Me 262.
From this point on Messerschmitt became a favorite of the Nazi party, as much for his designs as his political abilities and the factory location in southern Germany away from the "clumping" of aviation firms on the northern coast.
Messerschmitt had its share of poor designs as well; the Me 210, designed as a follow-on to the 110, was a disaster that almost led to the forced dissolution of the company.

The ambitious concept behind the Messerschmitt Me 264 was to build an aircraft capable of reaching any point of the globe without refuelling.
The reality was that Germany could not afford to build a fleet of these long-range bombers and, in any case, that the Luftwaffe's experience with their heaviest operational bomber, the Heinkel He 177, was fraught with mechanical and technical failures, and limited operational advantages over medium bombers or large maritime aircraft adapted to specialist roles.
Despite the frustrations of the single prototype, the story of the Me 264 remains a fascinating one.

It's goal was to be able to carry a small load to the United States and return or a heavier load and ditch at sea and the crew picked up by U-boat.
The first prototype flew in December 1942, but soon allied pressure forced Messerschmitt to slow development and the prototypes were eventually destroyed by Allied bombing.

 The Boulton Paul Defiant
The first squadron to fly the Defiant was the newly formed 264 Squadron operating from RAF Sutton Bridge and later early in 1940 from Martlesham Heath.
264 was sent to France in these early stages and combined with 141 Squadron which also became a Defiant squadron.
264 Squadron was to suffer a similar fate in August 1940.

Even when Messerschmitt took to the air himself for the first time (in 1925) the M17 in which he was flying crashed, putting him in hospital for some time.
Messerschmitt gained worldwide recognition for the 109 design and it went on to be produced in greater numbers than any other single seat aircraft in aviation history.
The Messerschmitt concern shared in the post-war success of Germany and is now part of the massive MBB concern, which manufactures parts for the European Airbus and the Tornado strike aircraft.

They probable know that the airplanes should not be able to do that much destruction to USA’s mainland but hopefully should reorganize their production capacity for defense instead of producing offensive war material that should have a direct impact at Germany.
In February 1945 Hitler still talked about sketches from Messerschmitt of four engine plane that should be able to reach USA and come back.

While it would have been quite useful as a Condor replacement, there were a plethora of problems.
First of all, Willy Messerschmitt was one of those people who pissed people off and he so infuriated Generalfieldmarshal Milch, the man who made all the decisions about who built what, that he lost control of his own company.
Still he was left in charge of company research and touted the 264 at every opportunity.

Die viermotorige Me 264 wurde 1941 als transatlantischer Bomber entworfen, der in Frankreich stationiert werden und Städte an der Ostküste Amerikas bombardieren sollte.
Als Amerika in den Krieg eintrat, wurde die Bomberforderung über die Fähigkeiten der Me 264 hinaus erweitert, und die sechsmotorige Me 264 B sowie die Ju 390 und Ta 400 kamen zur Entwicklung.
Beide Versuchsmuster (V1 und V2) der Me 264 wurden bei einem Luftangriff zerstört und nicht wieder aufgebaut.

Unlike the earlier cold principle motor which directed all of the oxygen and water vapor produced by the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide out of the engine's nozzle, the new motor employed a hot system in which the oxygen was ignited for additional thrust and better fuel efficiency.
Flight testing of the first series of Me 163 B-0 preproduction aircraft proceeded through 1942 and demonstrated the dangers of the Me 163's unproven propulsion system.
On landing, the airframe was damaged in the area of the flap mounts when the aircraft rolled over the end of the runway due to the failure of the brake system.

Had a bang at Bf110 but had to break away as tracer was coming over my head from another behind me. He appeared to be hitting his fellow countryman in front of me but I didn't wait to see if he shot him down.
He was right in front of me, and if only I had not gone at him so wildly I should have had him easily.
Park told the meeting that not only was it not feasible to put up large formations of fighters, but greater time would have to be taken in the initial stages of forming them up.
