Messerschmitt Bf-109 - The Air Combat Wiki
Willy Messerschmitt's masterpiece, the Bf-109, was the prototypical modern fighter at the beginning of the war and was still going strong at war's end six years later.
The compression ratio was raised to 7.3 on the port side and 7.5:1 on the starboard side cylinders and the maximum rpm was raised to 2800.
The fuselages with their DB 601E engines were unchanged apart from the addition of a lower keel member to support the main landing gear legs, which were moved to the centerline and designed to extend to a more vertical configuration.

 Messerschmitt ME 109
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter was flown by many of the top scoring Luftwaffe fighter pilots during WW II.
The Messerschmitt model that bore the brunt of the Battle of Britain was the Bf 109E.
In all an estimated total of 35,000 ME 109's were produced (including those built outside of Germany) by the end of WW II, making the Bf 109 the most numerous fighter of that conflict.

The Messerschmitt Me-262 Schwalbe / Sturmvogel
Willi Messerschmitt kept on lobbying to produce both the Me-209 and the Me-262, partly it seems as an exercise in bureaucratic empire-building, and it wasn't until November 1943 that the Me-209 was dropped for good.
Messerschmitt answered without hesitation that the Me-262 had been designed from the outset to carry 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of bombs, could possibly carry twice as much, and would be easy to adapt to the "Jabo" role.
Messerschmitt was straining to keep up with demands for production of existing aircraft types, a difficulty that had been compounded by a devastating Allied air raid on the company's plant at Regensburg on 17 August 1943.

 Messerschmitt BF-109
Because the company was renamed to Messerschmitt after July 1938, when Erhard Milch finally allowed Willy Messerschmitt to ac- quire the company, some late-war aircraft (almost ex- clusively those built or rebuilt by the Erla Flugzeugwerke) actually carried the name "Me 109", in an apparently er- roneous designation stamped onto their aircraft type plates.
Me 109 is known to have been the name used in print by the Luftwaffe propaganda publications as well as by the Messerschmitt company itself after July 1938, and the Luftwaffe personnel, who pronounced it may hundert-neun.
Me 109 pronounced emm ee one oh nine was the contemporary English interpretation of the des- ignation.

Messerschmitt is a famous German aircraft manufacturer, known primarily for their World War II fighter aircraft, notably the Bf 109 and Me 262.
Messerschmitt AG was incorporated as a separate company on July 11 1938, with Willy Messerschmitt as chairman and managing director.
Messerschmitt had its share of poor designs as well, the Me 210, designed as a follow-on to the 110, was a disaster that almost led to the forced dissolution of the company.

Messerschmitt, having faith in his design and knowing that Milch expected him to fail, decided to push on with the fighter.
It looked frail compared to the heavier aircraft they were used to; they were uncomfortable with the fully enclosed cockpit, which was cramped in any case; they were unhappy with the aircraft's high wing loading; and didn't like the steep ground angle, which restricted their forward view on take-off.

Several schemes were proposed by the Messerschmitt design bureau to extend the range of the Me 264, including towing one Me 264 by another to altitude, in flight refueling by a second Me 264, adding two more engines bringing the total to six and using take-off rocket pods for overload takeoff conditions.
A general skepticism was creeping in concerning the numerous delays in getting the first Me 264 in the air, and again the consensus from the RLM and General Staff of the Luftwaffe was leaning towards the Junkers Ju 290 and the six engined Ju 390.
According to Messerschmitt, the components for the first five prototypes were completed, but he lacked the necessary space and facilities in which to construct them.

Three jet engines powered the Me P.1102, two were located beneath the fuselage nose and one was located in the tail (an air intake on the top of the rear fuselage fed this turbojet).
All Messerschmitt documentation was seized by the US and was used in the development of several aircraft, possibly including the Martin XB-51.

With the 210's stability issue improved, the Me 410 was a solid performer, and through many variants, gave the Luftwaffe a formidable heavy bomber interceptor, and ground attack platform.
While the Me 410 scored a considerable amount of daytime bomber kills, it was still vulnerable to the latest single-engine Allied fighters.

By the end of the war, Messerschmitt was working on a prototype of the improved "Me-262B-2a" night fighter with a longer fuselage, increased fuel capacity, and most importantly "Berlin" centimetric radar, with improved range and resolutions and a dish hidden in the nose, instead of the clumsy and drag-inducing "antlers" of the long-wavelength radar.
Development of the He-280 seemed to be going well, but further evaluation of the Me-262 demonstrated the superiority of the Messerschmitt v7ndotcom, and on 27 March 1943 the RLM ordered all further development of the He-280 as an operational type to be abandoned.
