  Charles Messier
Messier as loyal employee stated: "I was a loyal servant of M. Delisle, I lived with him in his house, and I conformed with his command." When Delisle finally announced the discovery on April 1, 1759, it was not believed by the other French astronomers (perhaps they took it as an April Fool's joke).
The Messier catalog was finally corrected by identifying at least 3 of the 4 missing objects, and brought into its current state by adding the late discoveries of Messier and Mechain, M104--M109, plus the non-cataloged discovery M110, only in the 20th century.
Messier was appointed as associate editor of the Connaissance des Temps in 1785, and hold this post for five years until 1790.

M15, (Messier 15): 40,000 light-years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Pegasus, it is one of nearly 150 known globular clusters that form a halo around our Milky Way galaxy.
Messier 15, blue stars (cont.): A HST image of the center of the globular cluster M15 reveals a new population of about 15 very hot stars isolated at the core.
Another more revealing name might be the "Twin Jet Nebula." Indeed, because of the nebula's shape and the measured velocity of the gas, in excess of 200 miles per second, astronomers believe that the description as a super-super-sonic jet exhaust is quite apt.

Messier further alienated his countrymen by publicly firing Pierre Lescure, long-time president of subsidiary Canal Plus, just weeks after giving Lescure two years to reverse the pay TV station's losses.
The move provoked open rebellion by the channel's staff and increasing suspicion that Messier was preparing austerity measures to include slashing Canal Plus' funding of French cinema — thus ending its central role in preserving the cultural exception he had declared dead.
Their view that Messier would bankrupt his corporate creation — discrediting the entire Paris Bourse in the process — was pressed upon Chirac allies on Vivendi's board, and down went Messier.

 Messier Object 15
M15 was discovered by Jean-Dominique Maraldi (Maraldi II, 1709-88) on September 7, 1746 while he was looking for De Chéseaux' comet; he described it as 'A nebulous star, fairly bright and composed of many stars'.
Charles Messier, who cataloged it on June 3, 1764, and Johann Elert Bode couldn't make this out and described it as 'nebula without stars,' so that it remained to William Herschel in 1783 to resolve this fine star cluster.
M15 was the first globular cluster in which a planetary nebula, Pease 1 or K 648 ("K" for "Kuster"), could be identified (Pease 1928, on photographic plates taken at Mt. Wilson in 1927).
