W3C I18N FAQ: HTTP and meta for language information
Language information may also be found in the HTTP header that is sent with a document (see the last line in the following example of an HTTP header).
When specifying the language for text-processing you are declaring the language in which a specific range of text is actually written, so that user agents or applications such as voice browsers or spell checkers can effectively handle the text in question.
Language declarations in the HTTP header or meta elements should be used for expressing metadata about a file.

 EnergyLanguage - Meta Language
Language and consciousness are symbiotically related, and are subject to change and evolution.
Developing and implementing a "language of energy" is a way to meta-evolve into a more sophisticated mode of thought and existence, as well as a method by which to inventory our knowledge and place in the cosmos.
Before a language is constructed, (that is, before words are assigned to ideas that represent things), there ought to be a coherent theory or methodology that underlies it and makes its subsequent absorption as enlightening a process as possible.

META Language Tag - Metadata Elements
This document is mostly concerned with how to specify the primary language(s) (there could be more than one) and the base language (there is only one) in HTML documents.
The value of the Content attribute of the META element is the same as the value of the Content-Language header in HTTP; i.e, a comma-separated list of language codes.
Language META Tag and ISO 639 2 letter and 3 letter language codes can be found at the W3C - www.w3.org - ISO 639 Language Codes.

Meta Content Language: May be used to declare the natural language of the document.
Meta Distribution: There are three classifications of distribution of your web content: Global (the entire web), Local (reserved for the local IP block of your site), and IU (Internal Use, not for public distribution).
Meta MS Smart Tags: Smart Tags were part of a beta test of Internet Explorer that was removed due to negative press and feedback from users.

A proposed meta-language for use with mxTextTools
I have aimed for a simple textual transformation from language to tag table - this means that the language should be able to cope with anything new added to mxTextTools over time, and also means that it is simpler to implement.
Whilst the ability to handle 100% of the tables that might be generated for use with mxTextTools would be very nice, I'll still be reasonably satisfied if the "normal" usages (i.e., those needed 99.9% of the time) are catered for, with complex or odd cases requiring hand-coding of tag tables.
When calculating indentation, the same assumption is made as within the Python language itself - i.e., that any tabs are to be interpreted as moving to the next multiple of eight (8) spaces.

 Language codes - Meta
One standard for marking the languages used in 'net documents is RFC 3066.
Some languages will require dialect/region specifiers on top of it, or don't have any 3-letter code to work with at all, so consistency isn't going to be achieved.
Thoughts on language integration proposes that language codes be put as part of the URL path and not the domain name:

Our Research on Declarative Meta Programming   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
For this, we require that the logic meta-programming language lives in symbiosis with the object-oriented base language, allowing base level programs to be manipulated as terms, facts or rules in the meta level.
In the case of Java, which is a statically typed language, this meta layer might be implemented as a preprocessor or even an extension of the Java compiler itself.
A third approach is the use of a separate logic language and base language with provisions of the logic language to externally access the repository of the base language.

It aims to be * an accurate reference implementation of the language specification, * a platform for experimentation with the language semantics or extensions to it, * a useful tool for educational purposes.
The implementation is intended to be as direct a translation of the language formalisation found in the Definition of Standard ML as possible, modulo bug fixes.
Some EML specifications are executable, making EML a "wide-spectrum" language which can be used to express every stage in the development of a SML program from the initial high-level specification to the final program itself and including intermediate stages in which specification and program are intermingled.

 ANTLR Specification: Meta Language
When generating code in an object-oriented language, parser classes result in classes in the output, and rules become member methods of the class.
Object-oriented programming languages such as C++ and Java allow you to define a new object as it differs from an existing object, which provides a number of benefits.
Meta symbols are used outside of characters and string literals to specify lexical structure.

The META parsing technique is an interesting challenge to Scheme compiler writers, because a Scheme compiler must itself perform all of the optimizations we have discussed.
The META technique does not seem to easily extend to parsing tasks which must be able to "rub out"--e.g., directly parsing user type-in--because that task seems to require the ability for arbitrary back-up, including backing up over side-effects.

Later, that meta data can be used to limit the scope of the search.

 ML: The Meta-Language
ML is a programming language that began life is the meta-language of the original LCF system, hence the name.
It is distinguished from these languages in two ways: ML uses strict evaluation rather than lazy evaluation (although a lazy dialect of ML does exist); and ML is not a `pure' functional language, you can also write imperative programs in ML.
Standard ML is partitioned in to the Core language, the Modules language, and the Basis library.

There are a wide variety of concept mapping languages ranging from informal to formal; all share the same fundamental structure (nodes and arcs), but they vary in many ways, including degree of formality (typing), allowable component types, component graphical attributes, inclusion of contexts, and miscellaneous constraints.
There is a large design space in concept mapping languages and each design is difficult and time consuming to implement.
The properties of such a "meta-visual language" avails itself to a variety of new applications including experimentation in concept map formalisms and powerful type checking tools for visual notations such as are used in knowledge modeling and decision making.

A meta language for programming with bound names   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The design of FML is `semantically driven', in that it arises from the model of variable binding in terms of Fraenkel-Mostowski sets given by the authors in (Gabbay and Pitts 1999).
Compared with Standard ML (Milner, Tofte, Harper, and MacQueen 1997), the language has a novel type constructor for abstractions; facilities for declaring locally fresh names; and recursive definitions can use a form of pattern-matching on bound names in abstractions.
The crucial point is that the FML type system ensures that these features can only be used in well-typed programs in ways which are insensitive to renaming of bound names.

The Meta Language Markup Language, MLML, is an abstract source code representation in XML.
One of the aims is to provide improved language integration, initially with Java, but in the future with other languages too.
It should facilitate translations between language paradigms, for example from object-oriented to strictly procedural, and provide an experimental platform for semantic equivalence problems.
