Metabarons - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Metabarons or The Saga of The Meta-Barons is a science fantasy comic series relating the history of a dynasty of perfect warriors known as the Metabarons.
The Bushitaka is the strict code of honor followed by the Metabarons, profoundly influenced by the Japanese bushido.
The story of the Metabarons begins on an isolated world which possessed a blue, jelly-like substance whose properties defied the laws of gravity.

SAVANT:: 10x the Speed of Love
Ostensibly the history of a clan of uber warriors, The Metabarons is a science fiction epic on the literary scale of Frank Herbert's DUNE, or Isaac Asimov's FOUNDATION.
We are shown Von Salza's maiming, which results in the Metabaron tradition of replacing organic body parts with technology, as well as many other seminal events that give us a better understanding of things that happen later in the second graphic novel.
As the story of each successive Metabaron unfurls, we are given snapshots of the key moments in each of their lives.

Lothar (Metabarons) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lothar is a fictional robot in the Metabarons universe.
He is presented firstly being in service of the Metabaron (the Nameless), who asks Tonto to narrate to him of his master's history.
Tonto who has been served the Metabarons for decades, unlike Lothar who is relatively new in the Metabaron's ownership, tells the saga to him, being thus the main narrator of the comic book series.

The Metabaron is the last of a line of renowned warriors created by psionic and genetic intervention continued through adoption and marked by cybernetic augmentations.
The last Metabaron (this is the one who is in the Incal Series by Jodorowsky and Moebius) made the decission to not take a wife and end the tradition.
The fates of the last Metabaron and his 'son' are described in the Incal Series and in a new series by Jodorowsky and Moebius called 'After Incal' (Not published yet).

The Metabarons #6 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
The difficult part of the Metabarons, at this point, is the viscosity of the gender conflicts, with the guys pretty much firmly against the girls.
The question then remains whether or not Jodorowsky (or Herbert for that matter) is using this landscape to ultimately judge or justify the foibles of the animus, with the reader’s response dictating to the individual whether this is in good taste or not.
Immensity of scale is a repeating motif in the Metabarons and, here, we are treated to giant floating apes who hover near the peak of a one hundred fifty foot mushroom for the bulk of their nasty lives.

RPGnet Forums - [Metabarons] Sell me on it.
On the other hand, the Metabarons game seems to be more suited to an Incal campaign, with Incal being a comic set in the same universe (Jodoverse, as it tends to be called), but at much lower power levels.
The series follows the individual Metabarons through the ages, until it ends with the "current" MB (The one who shows up in the "Incal" series.), who decides to be the last of them and to leave the universe.
The Metabarons comic serves more as a mythic background to the universe (with myth/fairy tale logic behind it), and the game does not support these kinds of power levels too well, in my opinion.

Besides Metabarons, they're responsible for Technopriests, the upcoming reissue of The Incal and dozens of other books that are capable of lining all other books up against the wall and blowing their guts out with an errant idea.

Metabarons truly is an epic saga, and Path of the Warrior is just the first step or two down that road.

The Metabarons is actually a spin-off series from Moebius' epic The Incal (The Incal is just now getting translated for American audiences with one volume out, due to the success of The Metabarons) but one wouldn't notice while reading this book.
In this first volume, we follow the first Metabaron, Othon Von Salza Castaka, and his trials and pains in establishing the future line of Metabarons: pains that include the loss of a son, two wives, and a planet or two.
There are two subsequent volumes out already: The Metabarons: Blood and Steel and The Metabarons: Poet and Killer, as well as another on the way in February, and they are all reasonably priced (cheap comics goooood, $35 hardcover reprints are baaaaad).

Serving as both prelude and epilogue, ALPHA/OMEGA begins with the story of Baron Dayal of Castaka, the founding father of the Metabarons clan; and ends with the ascension to power of the final and most powerful of the Metabarons.
These are the bookends that complete the saga of The Metabarons - hardened, insane warriors who sacrifice life and limb in their pursuit of challenge, honor and revenge.
ALPHA/OMEGA is also a creative achievement in that it brings three generations of Metabarons artists together under one roof as they each provide their interpretation of the epilogue story.

The Metabarons represents perhaps the most successful attempt ever at depicting in comics the type of sweeping, epic space-saga that has long occupied the realm of science fiction novels, but rarely been seen in comic books.
