 [Metadistros-en] [Fwd: metadistros and FAI/BootCD]
I've put this onto a CD instead of NFS/floppy only: (http://www.iinet.net.au/~niall/fai/) My next goal is to flesh out the tools used to make this CD and make them more generic so they can be used to build LiveCDs made from FAI classes.
I highly recommend you look into FAI as a way to define your metadistros, you could have the metadistro run live off the CD and/or optionally install to disk as well.
I'd like to help integrate this class system into the new debian-installer when I have time so it would all be available on Official Debian GNU/Linux CDs.

So the only thing than I could do was writing down the info and features of our system as example of implementation.
I hope with their help (and your, of course) this system show up itself as a really good one and the next for Metadistros, Ubuntu and all the distros based on.
I know this is not a very interesting history nor it is a wonderful name.

My name is Juanje and work in Metadistros, but it's my first message in this list.
For example, I have a minimodule with "hwdata" (/usr/share/hwdata) directory, and I want than my Metadistro when load the minimodule, copy this directory, and his content, into /usr/share/.
I was tried to make this in my scripts, and by hand, but it is not posible, because /usr/ is a link to an iso filesystem.

[custom] Updated docs regarding meta package building
I have to focus on things which I'm abel to manage but I will continue to propagate the *idea* while hoping to bring the metadistros people into the boat.
In his explanations he said that the main problem is that Debian wants a Debian tool to make its own LiveCDs but Metadistros wants to give tools to let anyone create a distribution that can be used as LiveCD and/or installed and be based in whatever linux distribution the user wants.
As he sees it, instead of *marrying* them more with Debian their idea is to separate their code to be independent of any distribution, letting their system work with any distribution.

This utility can make it easy to copy packages from one computer to another, or to recreate packages that are installed on your system, but no longer available elsewhere, or to store the current state of a package before you upgrade it.

A set of 2 installation CDs that can be used to install multiple profiles, built using customized versions of then Sarge packages for the debian-installer and the debian-cd systems.

Last Friday I was at Campus Party 2006, one of the most important network meetings in the world, taking part in a round table with other Open Source companies.
There was a bunch of other Open Source people, like Javier Linares, Berta Flores and Javier Carranza (exprimiendo, alquimia, interactors), Alvaro López (cherokee, sun microsystems), Juanje (metadistros), Xavi de Blas (Linux Show), Sancho Lerena (pandora), to name just a few.
Shortly after getting there I got a new assignment: to participate in a round table about distros.

I'd also like to have a BOF to decide an official, unique, marketable name for a specialisation of Debian, since I'm tired of using "metadistros/subdistros/flavours" every time :)
Connected to or stemming from discussions about metadistros, subprojects, flavours, and debtags will be a project connected to brainstorming and beginning work on a a new Debian subproject for nonprofit organisations.
For more information see the recent announcement and the project website.

Hi, please take a look at http://metadistros.hispalinux.es/whitepaper.pdf It's the first whitepaper of the Hispalinux Metadistros Project [1], an intend to unify a fast way to get a Debian distro focused to certain users.
We've just created a mailing list to talk about it in English: http://listas.hispalinux.es/mailman/listinfo/metadistros-en We need the Debian developer community feedback please, we don't want to duplicate any effort.
