Born out of the West Coast Metal scene of the 80's, Metal Church quickly became one of the standout talents of the genre.
Their self-titled release "Metal Church" postured the band as one of the pioneers of the thrash/metal scene.
In 2006, twenty years after their cult album "The Dark", Metal Church are ready to present their brand new release, "A Light In The Dark", forging a creative arch that skillfully links the band's past with the present.

Metal Church never reached the level of success of label-mates Metallica, although they deserved to and in seemed as though they were headed for success.
Metal Church's first appearance was on the 1984 Metal Massacre V with a song called "The Brave." This track was my favorite track on the compilation, second only to Fates Warning's "Soldier Boy." Almost two years later their first full length, self-titled album was finally released, and what a debut it was.
Metal Church rode the line between thrash and power metal and had every bit the power and intensity of bands like Metallica, who were at that time opening for Metal Church.

Metal Church are a great metal band from Seattle, (yes, way before grunge.) Metal Church never reached the level of success of label-mates Metallica, although they deserved to.
Riding the line between thrash and power metal, Metal Church burst onto the scene with their self titled debut, and what a debut it was.
Why this release didn't send Metal Church soaring up the metal charts is a mystery to me. In any case the title track takes a stand against (c)rap music and the music industry in general.

Not much further behind Metallica and Exodus was a little-known band named Metal Church, comprised of the metallic duel-guitar attack of Kurdt Vanderhoof and Craig Wells, the banshee vocals of David Wayne, the thumping bass of Duke Erickson, and the double-bass heavy percussion of Kirk Arrington.
Metal Church dishes out some of the finest musicianship found in the 80's, and after listening to this song, your jaw should be hanging open.
Metal Church doesn't get mentioned much when talking about the heavy bands of the '80s, but they put out some good albums and this may be their best.

Metal Church were the perfect synthesis of the two seemingly conflicting camps of power metal (Candlemass, Helloween) and thrash (Megadeth, Exodus), and they stood alone.
I read in Metal Maniacs that the reason you left Metal Church in the first place was to go work in the studio and learn that end of things.
I don't know, the whole Metal Church thing, as far as John, Dave and myself are concerned, we want to keep the thing going at whatever capacity we can.

We had the opportunity to obtain a photo pass, thanks to Michele from WCP Management, as the opening band, Sixty Miles Down is one of the bands she works with.
We were not very interested in the next band that played, from their first song we knew that their music was something that we would not be interested in.
Metal Church then made their way onto the Starland Ballroom stage.

It is interesting to note, however, that while in major cities with thriving punk rock this phenomenon manifested itself in the form of thrash metal (for example, L.A.'s Metallica, New York's Anthrax), in secondary capitals, up-and-coming bands generally boasted a more mainstream metal approach.
Such was the case with Phoenix's Armored Saint, Connecticut's Fates Warning, and Seattle's Queensryche, but Metal Church (also from Seattle) seemed determined to cover both angles on their powerful 1985 debut.

Next up was Metal Ages recording artist Division, who may be well on their way to becoming one of the finest progressive power metal bands in the US.
Metal Church was the top act, they were the main attraction, and by my standards they were the best band to hit the stage.
We celebrated twenty years of Metal Church with this tour, and if this is any indication of things to come, Metal Church should still be doing this twenty years from now.
