Metal Gear Acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is part of the Metal Gear series, and was first unveiled at E³ 2004 in May. It was released in Japan on December 16, 2004, and in North America on March 22, 2005.
While the Metal Gear series, despite being stealth-based, has always had a heavy influence of action, Metal Gear Acid is not action-oriented, but focuses on turn-based strategy (this is possibly why the game's logo lacks the "Tactical Espionage Action" tagline featured on all of the Metal Gear Solid games).
Metal Gear Acid is a "side-story" and not part of the series' main storyline (similar to the earlier Metal Gear: Ghost Babel).

Metal Gear Acid 2 (psp: 2006): Reviews
Whereas Metal Gear Acid faltered slightly in its attempt to branch the MGS franchise out into a bold new direction, Acid 2 absolutely nails the concept with engaging turn-based strategy gameplay, a refined interface, quicker pacing, stylized graphics and an abundance of replay value, among other noteworthy attributes.
Metal Gear Acid 2 manages to deliver the same unique, strategic gameplay with the trademark style and oddball humor that Metal Gear Solid is known for, making it another great addition to your PSP library.
Alas, I guess if they removed the Metal Gear from this [game], then we wouldn't feel badly for calling it what it is: a decent, card-based strategy game that moves quickly and feels good, but is missing that real "x factor" to take it to the next level.

Metal Gear Acid Preview for PSP at Gaming Horizon
Taking place after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, this game sees Snake called [again!] out of retirement because some rouge faction of oddly-named warriors have hijacked an airplane (expect some public-outcry over this) and kidnapped a US Senator expected to be the next President.
Character cards contain characters from Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, and attribute their signature attacks or skills to Snake (or you) when he (or you) uses that card.
Whether Acid can wiggle its way into the "official" Metal Gear timeline is still up for debate, but I’m willing to say every fan of the series should check this game out, if for no other reason than the lead character being (at least in name) Solid Snake.
