Metallica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Metallica was formed in Downey, California, in 1981 by Lars Ulrich, drummer and son of tennis prodigy Torben Ulrich, along with guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield whom he met after each had placed classified advertisements in the publication The Recycler.
Metallica debuted an untitled song nicknamed "The New Song" in Berlin, Germany on June 6th, 2006 on the European leg of the Escape from the Studio '06 mini tour.
Metallica opened both nights and the concert was held at SBC Park.

Metallica (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The album's cover and title were inspired by those of the self-titled album by The Beatles, named The White Album because of its stark white cover.
While the album and the band were critically and commercially praised, many fans expressed disappointment and outrage at the new direction taken by Metallica.
The lyrics of the Black Album (written primarily by James Hetfield) were much more personal and introspective in nature (a trait that would continue on subsequent Metallica albums).

METALLICA is full of songs just as potent as the hugely popular "Enter Sandman," yet is not as complicated as their recent albums have seemed.
And in fact, Metallica is a long, long way from the charged momentum and skullfuck imagery of the early material created with original lead guitarist Dave Mustaine (now the general of Megadeth) and the late bassist and band spark plug Cliff Burton.
Metallica is no longer the cutting edge of metal, as it was in the beginning, but the band is expanding its musical and expressive range on its own terms.

 Metallica Album Reviews
Metallica throws together the epic-minded dual guitar delivery of bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden with the hyper-speed rush of bands like Motorhead, the brand new end result of which virtually entices listeners to pump their fists into the air and begin smashing things.
Throughout the album, the heavy guitar riffing of rhythm master James Hetfield (also the main songwriter, along with Ulrich) and primary soloist Kirk Hammett is punctuated by Hetfield’s vocals, the thin quality of which is the album’s primary weakness.
It was for the masses.” Metallica accomplished this feat by shortening the length of their songs (though their songs are still too long as a general rule, averaging around 5 minutes in length) and simplifying the arrangements to make the music more readily accessible.

Metallica: St. Anger - PopMatters Music Review
Metallica's strongest releases from the Nineties are all either live releases, such as the stupendous Live Shit box set and the underrated symphonic experiment S & M, or cover songs, represented by the excellent Garage, Inc. compilation.
An album a direct and no-frills as this one is best suited to a running time of around 45 minutes, but the band carries on for a draining 75 minutes, and the sound gets so stale, that you're mentally exhausted by the time you get to the end.
It sounds as sloppy as the album sometimes, but there are times where the band, joined by new bassist Robert Trujillo (producer Bob Rock played all the bass on the album), completely blow away the album, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're still one of the best live bands on the planet.

 Metallica Album Reviews
Even though Metallica were already the reigning kings of speed/thrash, respected all over the globe and imitated by hordes of less-gifted musicians, mass success still eluded them.
Of course, classic albums (or those which are regarded as such) don't become classic by themselves, as also The Black Album got the stellar production and the accessible songs, and was released at the right moment.
Metallica was the first (and arguably the only) of those groundbreaking bands to really settle into the mainstream.

One of my problems with Metallica during their golden 80s years is that every album they released in that time was topped by another from the year.
metallica open up very deep issues togerther with the powerful and trashey sound hit home truths thaty are otherwise unpercivable by the world in general you can either accept it or rebel to it to accept it on a deeper level is in harmony with true freedom who is for it cant be against it.
You see, what I feared the most going into this album would be that, in trying to reconnect with their thrash past, the band would also make the mistake of trying to pretend to be teenagers (ie turning into a nu-metal band), which is a problem given that they're all around 40 now.

 Metallica History
Metallica (the band name was actually "stolen" by Lars from a friend of his who wanted to call a fanzine like that) began gaining a large word-of-mouth reputation, particularly in Europe.
Metallica's landmark 1986 tour opening for Ozzy Osbourne is surely one of the most important events in the history of thrash.
Despite the tremendous breakthrough Metallica made with "Master Of Puppets", the Ozzy shows and the public acceptance of thrash, 1986 still ended on a grim note, as Cliff Burton was killed in a tragic tour bus accident during the Scandinavian leg of the tour.

This was an album of different quality in production, but similar in quality of music, to their previous albums.
Even though the fl album did not live up to previous standards set by Metallica, it was still an overall success for Metallica, and was right up there with their best work.
In conclusion, anyone can call Metallica "sell-outs" or greedy bastards or whatever else crosses their mind, but it's just too hard to argue with the crunching thrashy music that was produced in Metallica's prime.

 Metallica
Their third album Master of Puppets is not thrash, as such, but every track is almost as unrelenting as Ride The Lightening.
Metallica evolved from top class Thrash to produce the best heavy metal around, then on to "power metal", and they are currently moving in a strange folk truck-driver type of direction.
This album replaces with the "organized" approach that surfaced during Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets with a more experimental approach, the music is the height of complexity, and Metallica (or any other band) has never matched the complex series of movements as in Blackened and the title track...and justice for all.

We begin the album with the superb rocker Enter Sandman which is now a rock radio staple and the song's lyrics are about a young child who fears falling asleep to avoid the nightmares to come.
Metallica's self-titled effort a/k/a The Black Album became the band's best selling album with 14 million copies sold in the US alone to date and was also the band's first studio album to hit #1 in the US where it stayed for four weeks.
This album is also decidedly the favorite for metalgirls as it is the most intimate of their repertoire.

Now, here I am 10 years later, with a new Metallica album burning up the speakers in my house, and I've had time to reflect on how much these guys and their music have meant to me over the years.
I remember my first indication of a new album coming out was when I was flipping through the channels on the TV one day, and as I passed MTV I heard them mention a world premiere Metallica video.
The rest of the album is consistently solid Metallica, and I have to say I really like to hear James show off his range as a vocalist.

Los Angeles, CA - Metallica released their long awaited "Download This" CD today, and the band declared it Napster-proof.
The 'Napster Begone' track is so long and so horrible that no one in their right mind would take the time to download it.
Sure Metallica can pull off a 55 minute song, but a band like the Backstreet Boys would run out of words that rhyme with 'fire' and 'love' after about 6 minutes.
