 Iron Butterfly: Heavy (1968)
"Heavy" showed the promise of what most would consider Iron Butterfly's masterpiece, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Coming from a fan, it's not perfect by a long shot (I'll admit that some of the tracks are pretty dated), but it's still worth having for a listen or two every now and then.
This is not to say that their first two albums were bad, just that "Ball" and "Metamorphosis" were more solidly put together musically, in my opinion.
This is the prime cut of the album, if you ask me. This is the song that gave meaning to the album title.

Of course, there's the song In a gadda da vida, but other than that, Metamorphosis is the best thing Iron Butterfly released.
A strong heavy, very 70's album.Really what I was always expecting from an IB album.Featuring El Rhino and Lee Dorman (captain Beyond) and excellent guitar job from Pinera (cactus,...).Excellent purchase.
A couple of years later, Brann and drummer Ron Bushy put together a new 'Butterfly, where Brann as lead singer gave that grouping a sound more like Guess Who.

The collector writes: Probably the most well-known of the musicians from this band is Mike Pinera, who later went on to play with Iron Butterfly on their too little heard last album "Metamorphosis".

many years ago, i was told that the subject of the song "ride captain ride", performed by blues image, was the uss pueblo, which was taken into port by the north koreans on january 23, 1968..
