Topic: Metamorphosis trick

Metamorphosis trick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Metamorphosis is a stage illusion (magic trick) invented by John Nevil Maskelyne (who also invented the first typewriter to be produced in Great Britain), but most often associated with famous magician and escape artist Harry Houdini, and performed to some renown (for speed) by The Pendragons, among many others.
In the illusion, the magician is locked inside a large box or trunk, often after being restrained with handcuffs, ropes, bags, etc. The magician's assistant (Houdini employed his wife Bess) stands upon the trunk and holds a curtain up to momentarily conceal her entire body.
The original method of this trick was exposed by the Masked Magician, Valentino, as part of Fox TV series called Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed.

The exhibit reveals that the Metamorphosis trick - if you don't want to know, quit reading this story now - was accomplished using a trapdoor and quick footwork.
While his wife, Beatrice Raymond, chained shut the trunk, Houdini was already slipping off the trick handcuffs and cutting the box open with a hidden knife.

Penn and Teller do a fair number of "transparent" tricks, feeling that protecting the old standards is kind of stupid since the old tricks are tired and boring.
For example: nearly every card trick they'll do, they start of by proving that the card selection was forced by having the mark "draw" the three of clubs.

A ''trick'' can be a feat requiring some dexterity or ingenuity performed to amuse or as part of a game, such as a Skateboarding trick, tricks found in Aggressive Inline Skating or even Bike tricks.
In general, practioners are capable of performing the majority of their tricks on grass or regular flooring, without the requirement for mats or other specialised support.
Tricking has only recently come into its own as a recognised activity, although the various skills practiced have been in existence much longer and a variety of theories have been put forward as to where the term originated.
