Movie Review - Meteor Man - eFilmCritic
Meteors, as a rule, explode into flaming wreckage when they hit the ground.
Meteor Man (a meek school-teacher struck by a green space rock) can fly, but is too cowardly to levitate any higher than a foot above the sidewalk.
Meteor Man is simply a kid-centric superhero comedy, which puts it firmly among the ranks of Condorman and The Return of Captain Invincible in both quality and in how fondly it will be remembered.

 Meteors and Meteor Showers
Further, during meteor showers (which usually last a few days), the majority of the meteors appear to come from a particular point in the sky, called the radiant of the shower.
That meteors in meteor showers appear to radiate from a single point in the sky is an optical illusion, as illustrated in the figure on the right.
Meteor showers often vary in intensity from year to year, presumably reflecting details of encountering the orbit of the parent comet.

Ziggy's Video Realm: Sean Connery in Meteor (1979)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Given the fact that the entire genre this film represents is carved from a block of cheese anyway, the formula plot clichés and corny special effects are easily forgiven when set against the top-notch cast and the sheer entertainment value of this great popcorn flick.
In this case, Connery knows what kind of movie he's in, and he acts to the appropriate level; he plays the role reasonably straight but still has some fun with it, without ever crossing the line into camp.
However, to do the movie justice, one has to look at it within the context of the disaster movie genre, at which point it assumes its place as one of the all-time classics.

Video Review @ Stomp Tokyo - Meteor (1979)
After the cinematic one-two punch that was last summer's Deep Impact and Armageddon you're probably wondering, "Are there any good movies in which Earth is threatened by huge rocks traveling through space?" Sadly, no. Or if there are any, we have yet to see them.
See, if the President of the United States (played by, yes, Henry "Tentacles" Fonda) admits that the platform is up there, he's afraid that the US government will look like "hypocrites and warmongers." Of course, technically, that's exactly what the US government is, but he doesn't want to admit it.
The nicest thing we can say about Meteor is that, even without the computer generated special effects, it is at least as compelling an asteroid flick as Deep Impact.
