  History of Meteorological Services in Canada
Meteorological services for the fight were generally considered satisfactory, but the experience did point out the need for trained personnel, more observations, better communications, and better methods of short-period forecasting.
Services for aviation were virtually eliminated with the cancelling of inter-city air mail services in 1932, the same year that general meteorological services were discontinued in Newfoundland.
Services for the Canadian army were largely limited to the provision of surface and upper air data and forecasts for artillery units on the coasts and at training camps in central Canada.

It is recognized that the MSC air-side monitoring technical workforce will be retiring and departing in large numbers over the next 10 years.
This is the first year in which the MSC has run a national competition for atmospheric monitoring technicians for which possession of a CET diploma in electronics is a criterion.
All MSC managers whose sections are involved in operational meteorology, along with any other interested meteorologists, are urged to publicize this training resource and encourage its use.

 Canadian Snow Data CD-ROM - Introduction and Brief Documentation
The Canadian Daily Snow Depth Database consists of daily ruler measurements of snow depth taken by Meteorological Service of Canada observers and archived as daily element 013 in the National Climate Data Archive.
The data cover the period from the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s, with a pronounced peak in the 1976-1985 decade.
After 1985 there was a steep decline in the amount of data due to closure of snow courses and an erosion of contacts between MSC and other data collection agencies.

Despite being coordinated with the European Meteorological Society (EMS), and despite the fact that it has been in existence for seven years, there are only 55 chartered meteorologists out of over 2000 in the United Kingdom (public and private sector).
In his report, Kent offered the opinion that MSC and the U.K. Met Office share as many scientific and logistical challenges as does MSC and the U.S. National Weather Service, and suggests that, should a similar event be sponsored by the RMS, MSC may wish to consider participating.
