Geographical location of the station is 04.19°N 073.53°E. In accordance with WMO practices that every national meteorological network should designate one station as its National Meteorological Centre, Maldives renamed the Meteorological Centre as the National Meteorological Centre on 1 August 1980.
Geographical location of the station is 00.69°S 073.16°E. After the British Royal air force staff left their base in Gan, in 1975 the Meteorological Office in Gan came under the Meteorological Centre/Airport Office.
Since 23 March 1985 Gan Meteorological Office is a 24 hour working station.

Beno Gutenberg, June 4, 1889—January 25, 1960 By Leon Knopoff Biographical Memoirs
In the gymnasium he became involved in the operation of the meteorological station, and this aroused an interest in weather forecasting and climatology, which led him to undertake meteorological studies at the university.
The IAS and the Central Bureau were dissolved on March 31, 1916, and Gutenberg became scientific assistant for the Meteorological Service at the German Imperial Station for Earthquake Research at the University of Strassburg.
Geiger and Gutenberg attempted to determine the amplitude-distance relation for P-waves, but there are enormous fluctuations in the amplitudes from station to station, especially because of differences in instrumentation and in the local geology.

Since 1996, seismic intensity meters have been densely installed by JMA and many local governments for automatic and rapid announcement of seismic intensities in the region. However, it has been pointed out that the variation of the instrumental seismic intensity at neighboring sites is not small.
The JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) seismic intensity scale has been playing an important role in earthquake engineering such as seismic risk analyses and planning for disaster response.
The intensities were corrected by the site amplification indices estimated from station-wise average of the intensities.

I also discovered that Environment Canada’s Eureka weather station is one of five in a network of High Arctic meteorological sites established shortly after WW II under the combined efforts of Canada and the United States.
Because the Eureka weather station must be entirely self-sufficient, it depends heavily on the expertise of its mechanic who is responsible for building maintenance and general repairs.
Nevertheless, station staff are advised to be particularly attentive during the fall freeze-up and spring thaw when ice conditions on the Slidre Fiord offer hungry bears easy access to basking seals.
