  New Georgia Encyclopedia: Rome
Historically, Rome's claims to regional prominence were based on the transportation and cotton industries; today, health care and education are more important to Rome's influence and market in both northeast Alabama and northwest Georgia.
Rome was early to adopt the professional commission-manager form of government and built a new city hall and auditorium for that government.
Rome became one of the earliest Main Street Cities in Georgia, and downtown Rome's success in building a future on the foundations of the past was nationally recognized in 2003 with its receipt of a Great American Main Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Literary Policy of the Church of Rome
If we have been rightly informed, the Methodist press is itself under the strict surveillance of the bishops and elders, and the Methodist people have, we believe, great scruples about purchasing books, even of their own denomination, when not published by their own book society, which monopolizes the principal part of their publishing business.
Rome has also her University, with an average attendance of six hundred and sixty students; and the Papal States, with a population of two and a half million, contain seven universities.
It is to Rome and her general policy we owe it, that learning has not been a doomed victim; and the generous encouragement which she has never ceased to bestow on literature and the arts should command our respect and gratitude, whatever may be our estimate of her theology.

Report on Current Status of Methodist-Catholic Relations
During the past year, at the request of the WMC, Methodist theologians Professor Geoffrey Wainwright (co-chair of the Methodist-Catholic Dialogue Commission) and Bishop Walter Klaiber prepared a draft of a text wherein the Methodist understanding of justification and its relationship to the agreements reached in the JDDJ were theologically explained and substantiated.
The statement indicates Methodist acceptance of the basic consensus statements of the JDDJ and of the specifically Lutheran and Catholic explanations in the text (noting that these diverse emphases should not be communion-dividing), and sets forth the distinctive Methodist emphases on the doctrine of justification and related doctrines.
The Commission is presently studying the relationship between Catholic and Methodist definitions of what essentially constitutes the Church, and is in the process of preparing a report which would be presented to authorities in the Catholic Church and the World Methodist Council in two years' time.

Methodist Rome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Methodist Rome was a nickname sometimes given to the city of Toronto, Ontario in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The moniker implied that Toronto was as central to Canadian Methodism as Rome, or more specifically Vatican City in Rome, is to Catholicism.
The name began to fade in the early twentieth century, especially after the Methodist Church in Canada merged with Presbyterians and Congregationalists to form the United Church of Canada in 1925.

Why Baptist And Not Methodist - By R. A. Venable
The Methodists hold that not only penitent believers are to compose the church but those who have a desire to be saved, a willingness to be saved, are likewise entitled to membership.
He was forced to break either with the Methodist church and disregard the christening which his parents had effected for him, or he must stultify his own conscience, and throw to the winds his convictions as to duty in a matter of such vital importance.
I am a Baptist and not a Methodist, therefore, because I believe the Methodist’s views and practice of the sacred rite of baptism, both as to the subjects and mode, are utterly without Scriptural warrant, contravening the precepts, example and Spirit of New Testament teaching.

 Bryn Mawr Classical Review 03.01.11
Like Empiricists and Herophileans, "Methodists," or "doctors of the Method," as they styled themselves, were also a medical sect, or school, coming to prominence in Rome early in the 1st century CE.
The "old Methodists," as Caelius Aurelianus called them, remain rather shadowy figures -- Themison of Laodicea, said by Pliny the Elder to be Asclepiades' auditor (NH 29.6), and the flamboyant Thessalus of Tralles (Galen quotes from the letter he wrote to Nero to accompany the treatise he was dedicating to the emperor, MM I 2.1).
The Methodist sect came into being in Rome, and Methodist influence appears to have been greater in western provinces than it was in eastern provinces -- where Galen's influence soon predominated.
