  "Encyclopedia of Mental Health: Shyness"
A substantial number of generalized social phobics fail to respond to either, and combined treatments are being investigated.
A methodological difficulty is that studies vary widely in diagnostic criteria for inclusion, particularly in terms of the inclusion of subjects who meet criteria for Avoidant Personality Disorder.
Another caution is recognizing the degree to which shyness or social phobia is a consequence of inadequate social skills, which are not improved by merely taking medication, such as Prozac, which has been given media prominence as a shyness cure-all, a magic pill.

René Descartes [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Descartes explains that he had learned a variety of methodological approaches in a variety of disciplines.

Descartes, René (1596–1650) : Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy Online

Descartes abandoned these methodological studies by 1628 or 1629, turning first to metaphysics, and soon afterwards to an orderly exposition of his physics and biology in The World.
But this work was overtly Copernican in its cosmology, and when Galileo was condemned in 1633, Descartes withdrew The World from publication; it appeared only after his death.
