 Methuselah (WebBible Encyclopedia) - ChristianAnswers.Net
This fact, plus the former possible meaning of his name, suggests that Methuselah's very godly father, Enoch, received a prophecy from God when his son was born, thus the name.
Methuselah's great age may be further evidence of God's "long-suffering...in the days of Noah" (1 Peter 3:20; 2 Peter 3:9).
Methuselah's name is mentioned seven times in the Bible: Genesis 5:21,22, 25,26,27; 1 Chronicles 1:3; Luke 3:37.

 Methusela Lived How Long?
Methuselah is the oldest person recorded in Scripture, and his name is often used today when referring to something or someone very old.
In light of this information, we can take the age of Methuselah when Lamech was born (187), add to that Lamech’s age when he begot Noah (182) and the age of Noah when the floodwaters came (600), and determine that Methuselah was 969 years old the year the Flood occurred [187+182+600=969].
Thus, Methuselah’s father was a very righteous man, who undoubtedly set a proper example for his son.] While the exact meaning of Methuselah’s name is unknown, many scholars have suggested that it means: “When he dies, it shall be sent,” implying that the Flood would result when Methuselah died (Morris, 1976, p.

Methuselah’s hands … found!   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Methuselah, whose name means ‘when he dies it shall be sent,’ was the longest living man on record.  In the same generation that he died, at the age of 969, the Lord sent the judgment of a worldwide Flood.
Methuselah was in a unique position: he could have known Adam personally, and yet he lived long enough to be able to share his knowledge with Noah and his children.
Methuselah had some amazing stories to tell.  His father was Enoch, the godly man before the Flood who ‘walked with God’ and then disappeared because ‘God took him’ (Genesis 5:24).

Methuselah - Free Music Downloads, Videos, Lyrics, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Methuselah was one of a handful of English rock bands signed to Elektra Records in the late 1960's, when that New York-based label, flush with cash (courtesy of The Doors and Judy Collins), tried to expand on the rock music and world stages.
Their influences included folk and gospel music, and the quintet managed to put that all together as a coherent whole in an electric rock context, and got a three LP contract with Jac Holzman's New York-based Elektra Records.
Methuselah turned right around in mid-1969 and cut a second album, which was similarly eclectic.

Methuselah's Children by Heinlein reviewed   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
At the start of Methuselah's Children, petite and youthfully attractive Mary Sperling explains to her acquaintances her refusal to marry an apparently older man courting her by saying, "There's too much difference in age." She meant her own age, which was 183.
In Methuselah's Children, the son Hubert became so desperate to break the maternal bond that, first, he elects to remain behind on the planet of the "Little People" to escape her; and when she changes her mind so as to remain with him, he flees by joining the ship at the last moment.
On reading Methuselah's Children, 20 or so years ago, I was mildly concerned with Mary Sperling's choice to continue 'living' at any cost (shades of H. Ryder Haggard's She).

The Scientist : Making another Methuselah
The world's oldest known living tree is the subject of a much-publicized cloning attempt announced last week in California, but even the man trying to copy "Methuselah" admits he's motivated more by fondness for trees than an expectation of scientific discovery.
Even if Methuselah can be cloned, however, the Champion Tree Project's rationale that this tree can reveal something about the biology of longevity is considered dubious.
Cloning is a "fabulous thing for science," at least for traits like disease resistance that have a strong genetic component, said tree geneticist Toby Bradshaw of the University of Washington.

Methuselah's Children - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Methuselah's Children is a 1941 science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, originally serialised in Astounding Science Fiction (July, August, September 1941).
The Howard Families (the titular Methuselah's Children) are the product of a centuries-long eugenics scheme started in 1873 by a millionaire named Ira Howard, who found himself (presumably through a rare mutation) dying of old age in his forties.
The New Frontiers is the second generation ship in this timeline; the novel describes the improvements made over the Vanguard, the vehicle for Heinlein's paired novellas, "Universe" and "Common Sense" (combined as Orphans of the Sky).

The Methuselah Foundation-What is the Methuselah Mouse Prize?
The Methuselah Mouse Prize (MPrize), is the premiere effort of the Methuselah Foundation and is being offered to the scientific research team who develops the longest living Mus musculus, the breed of mouse most commonly used in scientific research.
Developing interventions which work in mice are a critical precursor to the development of human anti-aging techniques, for once it is demonstrated that aging in mice can be effectively delayed or reversed, popular attitudes towards aging as 'inevitable' will no longer be possible.
This is the true power of the Methuselah Mouse Prize, to demonstrate a proof of principle, and give hope to the world that decline in function and age-related disease are no longer guarantees, for us, or for future generations, if we work together now.
