Beat (music) - One Language   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
A beat is a pulse on the beat level, the metric level at which pulses are heard as the basic unit.
Much music is characterised by a sequence of stressed and unstressed beats (often called "strong" and "weak") organised into a meter and partially indicated by a time signature, the speed of which is determined by a tempo.
Metric levels faster than the beat level are division levels, and slower levels are multiple levels.

The common use of this metric is to form part of the supporting material for an address allocation request, demonstrating that the network has met or exceeded the threshold address efficiency value and it forms part of the supportive material relating to the justification of the allocation of a further address block.
The metric was 'normalized' in RFC3194, and a new metric, the "HD- Ratio" was introduced, with the definition: log(number of allocated objects) HD = ------------------------------------------ log(maximum number of allocatable objects) Figure 3 HD-ratio values are proportional to the H ratio, and the values of the HD ratio range from 0 to 1.
In terms of considering the number of levels of internal hierarchy in IP networks, the interior routing protocol, if uniformly deployed, admits a hierarchical network structure that is only two levels deep, with a fully connected backbone "core" and a number of satellite areas that are directly attached to this "core".

Considerations on the IPv6 Host density Metric
The common use of this metric is to form part of the supporting material for an address allocation request, demonstrating that the network has met the target address efficiency metric and that the allocation of a further address block is justified.
The role of the address efficiency metric is to provide objective metrics relating to a network's use of address space than can be used by both the allocation entity and the applicant to determine whether an address allocation is warranted, and provide some indication of the size of the address allocation that should be undertaken.
Table 2 of Appendix A indicates the number of levels of structure that are implied by a given HD-Ratio value of 0.8 for each address allocation block size, assuming a fixed efficiency level at all levels of the structure.

 Annotation for Lester, Joel
The one level that we perceive as "the" meter of the passage is referred to as the primary metric level (50).
The primary metric level, once established, rapidly assumes a perceptual life of its own (I like to refer to this phenomenon as mental inertia), and metric events are heard in relation to the grid of the primary metric level.
Moreover, metric ambiguity, a rarity at the beat level, is the norm at higher levels because meter-causing factors such as harmonic change, durational accents, and textural accents are not present or do not operate with any perceivable regularity.

Individual Submission G. Huston Internet-Draft APNIC Expires: August 12, 2005 February 11, 2005 Considerations on the IPv6 Host density Metric draft-huston-ipv6-hd-metric-00.txt Status of this Memo This document is an Internet-Draft and is subject to all provisions of section 3 of RFC 3667.
The metric was 'normalized' in RFC3194, and a new metric, the "HD-Ratio" was introduced, with the definition: log(number of allocated objects) HD = ------------------------------------------ log(maximum number of allocatable objects) Figure 3 HD values are directly proportional to the H ratio, and the values of the ratio range from 0 to 1.
The analysis described in RFC 3194 then applied this HD-Ratio metric to the examples given in RFC 1715, and on the basis of these examples, postulated that HD-Ratios of 0.85 or higher forced the network into some form of renumbering, while 0.80 or lower was considered to be an acceptable network efficiency metric.

SEL: Goal-Question-Metric (GQM)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Metrics and their interpretation reflect the values and the viewpoints of the different groups affected (e.g., developers, users, operators).
Conceptual level (goal): A goal is defined for an object, for a variety of reasons, with respect to various models of quality, from various points of view, and relative to a particular environment.
Operational level (question): A set of questions is used to define models of the object of study and then focuses on that object to characterize the assessment or achievement of a specific goal.

A reader has taken me to task for using metric measurements in answer to a recent query, when I said that there should be a gap of at least 150mm between downlighters and loft insulation.
Remarkably, this complaint about metrication is only the second that I have received in five years of writing this column.
I argued that the building industry in Britain has been metric since 1970, that materials are sold in metric sizes, and that all the relevant standards and regulations are metric, so it would be difficult - and possibly misleading - to slavishly convert them all.

Mean Tide Level) On the next line, the complete range of mean sea level data (METRIC data) available for that station is shown together with next, if appropriate, the amount of data with controlled benchmark datum stability in the RLR dataset.
On the same line, the ranges of Metric and RLR data are given, showing number of years and the first and last years of data, and a percentage missing flag which is the percentage of missing years of data between the first and last.
It is a good general rule, therefore, that 'Metric' records should NEVER be used for time series analysis or for the computation of secular trends; without datum continuity their only use is in studies of the seasonal cycle of mean sea level.

It is at the Metric level that installation IT managers and professionals will collect, compile, and report the data necessary to build the overall evaluation.
Weight factors assigned to each metric allow their weighted scores to be rolled up into a "percentage" rating for the Attribute which they compose; similar weight factors allow Attributes to roll up into a percentage rating for the IT Capability.

Ideally, this is opposed to a series of identical but aperiodically occurring stimuli, a series of periodically occurring yet otherwise differentiated stimuli, or an uninterrupted stream of sound (such as a drone).
A pulse may be an unheard event underlining a piece or metric level, thus the tempo of the piece is how fast the pulse is running, implied by the performer or listener based on context or past experience, or audible such as in Terry Riley's In C.

Sigma Level Calculation for Call Center Metric
I see this all the time with organizations that really don’t understand what Six Sigma and the metric really is. All to many times, the program is thought of as a "cost reduction" program that is meant to improve and measure your bottom line improvements.
So lets take your call center, and for operational definition lets agree for now that an "abandoned call" is one where a client calls and for some reason hangs up before the call can be dealt with (or basically they "abandon" the activity before resolution of the problem).
Additionally, your corporate structure thinks satisfying customers to a 4 sigma level, for the good of the business, future or repeat sales, business image or whatever the reasons might be - is where they want to be and is imposing it on you.
