Metro Center's upper level opened March 27, 1976, and is the transfer point for the Red Line to Blue and Orange Line trains on the lower level platform.
With Metro Center being one of the stations from the original 1976 system opening, some things have needed to be changed over the years.
Electrical problems at Metro Center during the summer of 2005 led to darkness on the Shady Grove side of the upper level.

Metro is conveniently located directly underneath Verizon Center with metro stations at Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Yellow and Green lines).
Verizon Center has its own parking garage located on 6th Street NW underneath the building and is open for most events at a charge of $20 for event parking.
In some instances the Verizon Center garage will be closed to the general public for events, in which case several public parking garages near the building would be viable options including Gallery Place’s parking garage on 6th Street NW and the parking garage next to Rosa Mexicano restaurant on F Street NW.
