Metro Manila Development Authority Chair Bayani Fernando said they will make the final draft of their recommendation and send it to the Office of the President the soonest possible time.
But Fernando said the MMDA will build a material reduction facility (MRF) for each of the 13 cities and municipalities with railroad tracks, and will extend it to the landfills that would be constructed a little farther from the tracks.
Fernando, who in 1986 did a study on garbage disposal by railway, submitted a proposal to Metro Manila mayors in the early 1990s to use the rail system of the Philippine National Railways to transport garbage to a sanitary landfill in southern Luzon.

 Trees to go in MMDA plan to widen roads - May 25, 2003
THE METRO Manila Development Authority plans to uproot the trees along Katipunan Road in Quezon City and demolish the center island to increase road space in time for the opening of school two weeks from now.
According to MMDA Traffic Operations Center director Angelito Vergel de Dios, they are expecting heavy traffic in the Katipunan area where several populous schools are located, including the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and Miriam College.
As for the university belt in Manila, the traffic director said that the widening of roads in the area is not possible anymore.
