Topic: Metro Orange Line bicycle path

Transportation of Los Angeles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Orange Line, a bus rapid transit system that runs from Warner Center/Woodland Hills to the North Hollywood Red Line station, was opened to the public on October 29, 2005.
It is claimed that bicycle travel in Los Angeles has become increasingly popular since the "bike boom" of the 1970s -- a period of time in which Los Angeles city and county authorities began painting bicycle lanes alongside the traffic lanes of major thoroughfares, and creating bicycle-only bike paths in others.
Bicycles are allowed on the Metrolink commuter rail system which connects the core of the city to the suburbs.

 2.8 Regional Travel Models
Bicycle and walk modes may be treated separately or may be combined as one option (non-motorized) because of insufficient data to treat the modes separately.
In the case of both pedestrian and bicycle travel, however, this has been demonstrated not to be the case, and a variety of environmental and personal factors are perhaps of much greater significance.
Bicycle and pedestrian projects have both been evaluated separately from other projects and compared only among themselves because the types of benefits are very different than standard road and transit projects.

NARPAC- RECENT ANALYSES- METRO LONG-RANGE PLANNING
Metro has received no approval for its planning efforts, and by late summer of 2004, it is clear that the WMATA Board has been reduced to begging for just enough funds to offset system depreciation and gridlock over the next six years.
Metro's new 10-year plan is expected to be published in February of 2003, in time to contribute to the federal government's new transportation act.
Metro was built to meet the vision of a different era, when people traveled according to uniform commuting schedules from "bedroom communities" in the suburbs to work in the downtown core and then home again.

Seattle Metro’s GM-Allison diesel parallel-hybrid buses are falling far short of the promised fuel savings of 40%—in some cases, delivering worse mileage than the older (and dirtier) dual-mode Breda buses they replaced, according to a report in the Seattle Post Intelligencer.
The hybrids, according to Metro, are also savings about $3 million a year in maintenance, are quieter than regular diesels and are faster than the old Bredas on hills and the highway.
The bottom line on the hybrid tax credits: the IRS has yet to publish official rates for individual vehicles, although good estimates are available.
