Go-Ahead, which faces action over the Ladbroke Grove rail disaster, has been booted off the Thames Trains franchise but is vowing to fight First Group when the enlarged Greater Western franchise goes out to tender this year.
The company responsible for the London Central, London General and Metrobus bus companies as well as the South Central and Thameslink rail franchises reported a 40% leap in half-year pre-tax profits to £45m and a 57% rise in the interim dividend to 11p.
Much of that came from a 60% rise in profits on the buses to £28m in the six months to 3 January, thanks to the huge subsidies Livingstone has thrown at the red bus operators to pick up commuters who have abandoned the car over the past 12 months.
