In 1997, Metromedia sold Orion (as well as The Samuel Goldwyn Company and Motion Picture Corporation of America) to MGM, with the deal finalized in late 1998.

Metromedia filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York earlier this month accusing 360networks of wrongfully cutting some of Metromedia's cables in an 80-mile conduit 360networks built for Metromedia in the Seattle area.
Spokespeople from both Metromedia and 360networks declined to comment on the pending litigation, other than to confirm that the two companies will be back in court Aug. 24 for the next hearing on the matter.
Metromedia's funding problems were leading many analysts to call for the company to take the same action as 360networks and many other service providers, and file Chapter 11.

Metromedia said it is in talks with Verizon but could default on its debt if it fails to reach an agreement or make an interest payment within a 30-day grace period.
Metromedia said it is seeking to restructure its debts.

For Metromedia Fiber, any restructuring plan will require winning back the confidence of its original investors, a group that agreed in October to participate in a funding package that was supposed to stave off bankruptcy.
As the public face of Metromedia Fiber and owner of a 26 percent stake, Kluge agreed to purchase $180 million in convertible debt as part of the financing package.
